suggestions for a Single stack 9mm metal frame and slide?

I had a Star M43 9mm, compact SA. Built like a tank and almost as heavy. Went to a poly framed Bersa BP9CC for awhile, then got a Kimber Solo. Love the Solo now, but it took awhile and a trip back to Kimber to get it running right.

I bought a Germany Army milsurp Walther P1 last year for just $250 that I absolutely adore.

All metal, single stack 9mm that is fantastically accurate, light and handles well.

Thank you for the suggestions. Atm I'm currently looking for a barrel on the longer end of things. Seems like star and a 9mm 1911 are the two best options atm. I'm gonna research the sig p239 and the accuracy. Looking more for a plinking then a concealed carry gun.

Between the two, which would you go for?

well..

SIG 239 is in the $750+ range: that's a lot for a "plinker", IMHO.

On the other hand a 9mm 1911 can very easilly be up there, too...

Possible exception would be the Taurus 1911B-9 @ under $500 : it has a lot of standard features that would cost a whole bunch of $'s if you were to take a mil-spec 1911 and have them done in a custom shop.

p.s. Picked up an almost never shot S&W 3913 last year and to call it an "all metal SHIELD" with the big plus (again, IMHO) of a decocker/safety & DA/SA is right-on the spot!

I sold a 3913 many years ago. overall very nice gun, just didn't like the "feel" for me.

Well made, accurate and not terribly expensive.

Funnest to shoot would be a 1911 but large and heavy for carry. I really like my Citadel. Someone mentioned that magazines were hard to get, they are plentiful now.

...S&W 3904 if you can find one.

I see a bunch of people have already suggested a 3rd-gen S&W metal-frame single-stack.

Let me suggest looking at a 1st-gen (M39/39-2) or 2nd-gen (M439/539/639) S&W metal-frame pistol. From an ergonomic and cosmetic standpoint, these have a couple of major differences from the 3rd-gen 39xx-series guns: they have traditional screw-on grip panels and were available in old-school blued or nickel finish (other than the SS M639). The 3rd-gen guns use a one-piece wraparound plastic grip, which, while functional and tough, just doesn't have the same feel as the grip panels of the earlier guns.

I like SIG's and I own several. The more modern double stacks are nice guns but the original single stack actually fits my hand the best of all. The 225/P6. Fits my hand just exactly, no extra anywhere. Just locks on there. Used to be lots and lots of surplus P6's out there but I guess those are all gone now. Sure you could pick up a nice one on gunbroker. I bought one, changed out all the springs and learned how to totally take it apart at the same time. Got the DVD from Top Gun Supply (along with the parts and springs) and I've been enjoying it ever since.

As mentioned before the Star pistols are a real value, the BM is a commander sized single stack, 9mm pistol, the Sig 225/P6 are great pistols but hard to find.

The best steel slim single stack 9mm I've ever held is the Kahr T9.

They're hard to find though. I don't think Kahr makes them very often.

If you want a cheaper option, the M88A and M70a are good options if you don't mind com-bloc. They are essentially a Russian "copy" of the 1911/Hi Power.
