Subcombact .45s

Springfield Micro Compact

Micro Compact Details

The few range reports I have heard claim it to be accurate and reliable.

I've got the plain old Compact model myself which runs a half inch longer (3.5"bbl) and that does 2" groups.

In my opinion, the best of the lot is the Springfield Micro Compact. Mine has been totally reliable and very accurate. It's a little pricy, but the quality can't be beat. I also like the Glock 23, but the Springfield is smaller. I expected that the recoil would be pretty strong from such a small .45 caliber pistol, but the recoil spring is designed to take up much of it. Actually, the recoil from the Micro is about the same as from my full-size 1911's.

Hey M1911

Do you have a USP .45C?

If so have you taken calipers to the two?

I have a full size Kimber and a .45C - I keep meaning to do so.

The web sites from both companies indicate that the Kimber Commander sized is actually THE SAME SIZE AND WEIGHT as a .45C. Go figure

Like I said I keep meaning to check it out.

One thing - HK is right on as far as weight - I have weighed mine.

As far as subcompact .45s go - no thanks. Commander size is perfect. 5" is best. If you have a great holster - subcompact is not necessary and in fact has the disadvantages that relate to a short frame and even shorter tube.

Milt Sparks VM2 - allows for comfortable seating with a commander and easily hides a full frame. Wear a slightly longer T-shirt untucked and blam - it is gone. Or tuck the shirt in over the gun - blam - it is gone.

Good luck

The S&W Chief Special 45 is a nice small pistol and was very reliable for me however the grip was so small that I found it very uncomfortable and could only use two fingers to hold the grip. The pinky was dangling below and I just didn't like it. Keep that in mind when buying a ultra small gun. As in all things, you make compromises.:D

I guess they can only make .45s so small, hmm? I was hoping to find something along the lines of a Kahr, but in .45, but I guess no one makes one.

I think that the Kimber Ultra and the Springfield Micro Compact are both about the same size as the P40, aren't they? And they have a LOT better trigger!
