Subcombact .45s

What are the options for a subcompact .45 auto? I know of the Glock 30/36, the Taurus (which has a questionable repuation), the Para LDA 6.45 (which is not getting good reviews on 1911 forum, it would seem) the various subcompact 1911s, and that's all I can think of.

Is there anything else?

The various small 1911s come to mind:

Kimber's Ultra Carry and CDP Ultra (which will be my next purchase, God willing...) and others.

the Sig 245 may meet your criteria.

my personal favorite is the Kimber Ultra carry as modified by Tim Brian, which he calls the Sidewinder.

Do your homework - some years were great, others need a bit of work.

Don't forget any "Officer's" sized 1911 (short frame and slide)

Or "Commander" sized 1911 (full size frame, short slide)

Many manufactures make (made) these. Some are LW models as well.

Another vote for the Kimber Ultra Carry, it is a great sub-compact 45. Recoil isn't bad and accuracy is top notch! (I have a friend w/ one)

I also would recommend the Para-Ordnance C6.45 LDA. Mine has been an outstanding performer with no problems.

If you can include weapons the size of the G30/36 then we can add the HK USP Compact.

You want one...I can hear it whispering to you...:D

The 1911 Commander, with a 4" barrel, doesn't really qualify as sub-compact.

I guess they can only make .45s so small, hmm? I was hoping to find something along the lines of a Kahr, but in .45, but I guess no one makes one.

Just have to get the .40 instead, I suppose, if I'm ever in the market for a tiny carry gun.

Personally, I avoid them.

They seem impressive with such a big spout out of a small gun. But I'm of the school the .45 should be shot out of full size pistols (min. P220/USP/G21) for good performance. I prefer comact or sub-compact 9mm or .40 since they expand more reliably out of shorter tubes. But I guess a .45 hole is a .45 hole right?

For casual range practice they can be fun and some not so fun (like the G36 or Sig P245)

Personally, I like the Glock 30, HK USP/C, and compact 1911's like the ones mentioned above.

There's also the Beretta Cougar or 8045 (?) Compact and SubCompact. It operates with a rotating bolt like the M-16 and Desert Eagle to reduce recoil. I believe some in the L.A.P.D. are allowed to carry these Berettas.

My Colt Defender holds 8 rounds of .45, weights 22oz (unloaded) and is a very accurate and pleasant shooter.

I had some functioning problems, but the Wilson mags have pretty much fixed that issue.

Full size first, Sig P220. Everything else is "also rans", but
for compact's; the Sig P245 gets my vote.:) :D

If the USPc 45 is on the list, it would be a no brainer!

The USPc 45 is actually a pretty large gun -- larger than my 4" barrel Kimber Compact.

Personally, I won't go smaller than a Kimber Compact in a .45.
