Stupidity at The Range

Even base-first, a relatively small bullet made of lead will reach a higher terminal velocity than a human being, by which I mean musch higher than 120 mph. Compare the cross-sections. This has been discussed before.

i just figured that the terminal velocity is a lot more than 350 fps. for the reasons already stated, but now that I do the math, 350 fps is almost 270 mph. fast enough to hurt.

It ain't mah fault. did I do dat?

Don't forget that in real instances of bullets being fired into the sky, they rarely leave the muzzle going straight up. If, as often happens, the bullet has a significant horizontal component to its trajectory, it will return to earth with more energy than it would have from simply falling straight down at its terminal velocity.
