Stupid, over the top or just a JBT?

I wonder how one could determine age at a nudist colony? Your honour, she LOOKED 18. KY has many problems with move-in RSOs. I am unsure why so many seem to want to move to KY. A friend suggested it is because KY is backwards and understaffed in Probation & Parole agents. The latter is being dealt with in new hires. The former is somewhat true in that KY will only notify those who request to be notified of a RSO moving into a neighbourhood. They make three attempts at telephonic notification and then stop. The state doesn't even provide photos and summary of convictions to the school systems. I still think yardsigns, SEX OFFENDER vests and a photo bill at the county library is appropriate. The fact remains, Bass Pro Shop outfits some LEOs with bait and tackle.

"Also how did this turn into a cop bashing thread so quickly?"

Um, maybe the title of the thread?:barf:

FWIW, I statutorily raped my wife for the first three months we were married. I did more than look at a teenage girl myself. Sixteen years later, I'm not a registered sex offender, though the wife may find me sexually offensive at times.

This guy sounds like a scumbag. If so, they need to nail him in any way possible. The child endangerment thing is like charging Al Capone with tax evasion. I don't see why the newspaper is making such a big deal about the swords, crossbows, etc. That's out of line. But the police did nothing wrong, IMO.

How come the media is a great evil, never to be trusted, unless it could possibly make a cop look bad?

How come the media is a great evil, never to be trusted, unless it could possibly make a gun owner look bad?

Don't be naive. We're all tempted to say "throw the book at 'em" until one of US screws up, and when the cops enter the house with a warrant, they find the ARSENAL, and the bulk ammo you bought and all the guns gets plastered all over the five o'clock news and suddenly you're an anti-government freak and then they'll "inform" their aghast viewers of how to keep their children safe from threats like us.

The media is never to be trusted. Period. They're selling you stories. Whether it makes a cop look bad or makes a gun owner look bad - it doesn't matter. If it makes a good headline, they'll sell you ... or us ... or a cop ... out.

As for the actions of the cop - overzealous, probably. When I was growing up, my dad kept 3 lever-action rifles mounted over the living room couch, and my brother and I were latchkey kids. Under similar circumstances, they could have thrown the book at him, too, for the same thing.

"The media is never to be trusted."

Okay, if you say so, but they're often correct. I won't bet folding money on anything they say, but they're still right more than they're wrong.

If you had ever done any police work you might have a different POV here. For example, if you went to home and KNEW the there horrible abuse occuring however you could not readily prove it, you might do whatever it took to protect children/spouses who were being abused. Including "BS" charges if that’s what it took. Personally I did not want to do patrol work any more because of these situations where there was nothing I could do. It was very hard for me not take these jerks out back and beat the crap out of them. Most cops are good people, and not everyone is a capable of defending themselves as the people in this forum.

The 'registered sex offender' thing I can sorta see...but infringing on his right to privacy because they had been to a nudist colony??? Since when is that illegal?
I agree with Sir William here.

Blackwater Ops

First, thank you for the response that was not an attack. I apreciate it.

Second
It was very hard for me not take these jerks out back and beat the crap out of them.

Is probably what I respect most about you guys. How do you not do it sometimes? I hear a story from a buddy or see something on the news and my blood boils.

I understand what you are saying, and yes it is very easy for me to have the point of view I have while sitting in my chair typing. I live in a damn near perfect world, my kids go to great schools, wife and I both have good jobs, our neighbors are nice, both our cars work... I could go on. My daily job is at a desk filling in spreadsheets, sending emails, talking on the phone, etc...

At the same time it is my view and since I am not in your shoes I have to base my view on my life. Yeah if I had different life experience I would probably have a different view. And I do understand that sometimes situations demand that things are done in a certain way.

In any case, if the guy is doing something bad to kids I hope that his new friends in Jail find out about it and offer him some therapy....
