Stupid .45 acp question

Stupid .45 ACP Question??

It is not only .45ACP but also 9MM and .40S&W. If you are not into reloading and have a large stock of parts and pieces, read that as cases, primers, powder and bullits, you will be out of ammo way before those of us who have it stocked to the roof of the Ammo Room at our storage facility. I moved all of mine out of the house 8 months ago into a rental facility with lots of electric locks and physical locks. I go in and out with a bag of stuff that has no markings on it at all. This seems like a secure way to keep the right stuff where needed. I also have a way to cut into the facility if it fails.

I guess what you could do is make all your furniture out of stacks of ammo. Just cover up the furniture with a sheet draped over it.

couch, cofee table, tv stand , chairs, everything could be stacks of ammo covered with sheets. They you do not need to rent a storage unit to stash your ammo.

Around here we do not have a problem finding 9mm. strangely .38 is hard to find but .357 can be found every where.

The calibers impossible to find around here are: .380, .38. .45acp,
.45 gap, .308 everything else they do have abailible at the gun stores but not neccesarily at walmart, gander mountain, dicks.

don't want to lock this thread... but if the 'S' flying happens

there will be plenty of 45acp to be had.... along with .223 and 9mm and lots of other...

Don't you guys know you take any ammo and weapons left by the dead or wounded.... and steal what you need if need be?

now back to reality:

must be your area.... 45acp is pretty available... you may have to just look somemore... best choice is to look ahead at a gun show... see if Georgia Arms or some other bulk ammo supplier is going to be there and order a couple hundred rounds ahead of time to be picked up there.

Super Dave,
IMHO, if you're considering a .45ACP pistol, do yourself a favor and get a real Colt's 1911 for your first one. My buddy just got an XDM .45ACP and finds it a bit finicky in the choice of ammo it will shoot.

Also, there's the factor that the Springfield Armory was recently flooded. I don't know it this will have any affect on availability or quality.

Eh, it all depends on where you're looking. Search on this forum for ammo sources... you'll find a ton. Also consider reloaded/remanufactured ammo from reputable companies... good for plinking!

If I didn't reload this thread would make me want to.
I really should cast some more 45's I'm down below 5K

Factory Super-Hollowpoints are nice. Who wouldn't want a hollowpoint to expand to 1" and penetrate to 24" :) but then you have a lot of cost involved to prove them in your weapon, keeping track of lot numbers and restocking and all that...all the while it is peace time (in your Wifes eyes) so no you can't buy 500 bucks worth of ammo this week....and then it happens...Political upheaval or political correctness gone overboard and now your fancy JHP's are not to be found and you'll have to start over finding a suitable lead bullet load so at least you have something...

Yeah I have one of those lame old round nose moulds and my smokey lube and no the LRN do not open up to 1"...but they feed 100% and I'm all sighted in. I am ahead of the curve.

I don't personally think that reloading is a terribly great idea for a great many shooters. I know dozens of people who own guns who shouldn't be allowed to assemble their own ammunition.

Your opinion, and welcome to it

I don't personally think that reloading is a terribly great idea for a great many shooters. I know dozens of people who own guns who shouldn't be allowed to assemble their own ammunition.

Part of that is assuredly true. I also know people who should not be allowed to drive and talk on the phone. Or raise children. Or post their opinions on internet forums, or play with sharp objects, etc.,etc, etc. I'm sure we all know some people like that.

Fortunately, it isn't up to you, or me, what these people are allowed to do. And it isn't up to them, or you, to decide what I am allowed to do. Its called freedom of choice and personal responsibilty. You have it, I have it, and so do many others. Where we run into problems is when people begin deciding what others should be allowed to do, based on the actions of a few irresponsible individuals. Thats what the gun control movement is all about.

You had your say, I had mine. Isn't freedom a wonderful thing?:D

Not to hijack the thread, but we might consider the concern that was raised when people started walking into lamp-posts while using their cell phones. See link -

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-525785/Brick-Lane-Britains-Safe-Text-street-padded-lampposts-prevent-mobile-phone-injuries.html

Now it turns out that this test never got off the ground, but I believe it does illustrate what can happen when people in authority decide they need to protect people from themselves.

As already mentioned, part of freedom is personal responsibility.

Whenever I get an opportunity, I try to encourage others to 1) enjoy life by trying new things, and 2) study the new things before getting into them too far so you live long enough to enjoy them... :)

where are you looking for ammo? all the shops by me have plenty in stock. unlike a year ago when you could not find any. but i still managed to stock up on over 2500 rounds :)
