stuck boresnake

Snakes

Bore snakes were named right. Once they go in the hole, they're hard to pull out, just like a real snake. Pounding on it with a rod is usually why people end up going to see a smith. Tamping just compresses the snake tighter.
-I use a brass rod with a small drill bit set into one end. I turn the rod by hand and little by little the snake comes out in pieces. When enough is out, then oil the works and push out what's left.
--Whatever you do don't try driving it out with a round file! Worst case yet was a snake with a file driven in from both directions! Very bad.

Pack the barrel with grease behind the bore snake. Take a wooden dowel rod that is tight to the bore diameter and tap the dowel into the grease. The grease will work it's way around the bore snake providing lubrication and the hydraulic pressure will force it out. Pretty simple once you've done it.

Loader!!! You got it! By golly, I've been following this thread from the beginning. Your grease/hydraulic theory should and will work. I jusy kinda feel like stickin a snake just to prove it,, hey just kidd'n.

Interesting idea. Just don't get the stick stuck. We've had a bunch of threads about people trying to get broken wood out of a bore, too.

Stuck bore snake!!The CANUCK method

Same thing happened to me .I put a patch in the loop and started pulling/pulling/ pulling /unti it stuck for good!!! Pulled the barrel and rec'r off and used a piece of rebar wire on the stuck end -put the rec'r end on my Tractor bar and the other end on a haybine and pulled ----it came out l!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!
