Stripped lower

Did not find a stipped lower at the gunshow.

Marquezj16...
Sorry to hear that... :( Good luck finding the lower that you want at the right price! :)

This goes back to my father, he always said not to trust anyone else's work when you have the option to check it yourself...
A rule I have lived by for 50 + years.
I can understand that I guess. I still have to wonder if you have ever put one together that wasn't within specs and if so, what did you do about it?

Slappy, you're right I haven't, even when using non matched parts. It's just the thought that it could happen... :D Now let's get back to the OP'S subject. What's the best choice in a lower or upper and should he buy a stripped upper or a finished one. I say build it because it will be all yours to brag about!

I'm not firing any rifle until I check the headspace, matched set or not!

It's one thing to check head space on old mil-surps, but a new AR build with quality parts, it is unnecessary. It's a over hyped internet phenomena.

Thanks again blacksky.

Watched the videos. They make it look so easy. Of course I know with my inexperience, it will not be.

Now I'm looking for a video of an upper assembly build with the standard A frame sight post and the standard rifle handguards.

Grab a Palmetto State Armory lower...heck, the upper's are inexpensive too...
Solid quality and makes it easier to get it all together ;)

It'll shoot sub-MOA anyway...so unless you need Match-grade AR stuff to do one-ragged hole groups at 800+ yards, why spend more?

Not looking for match grade.

Looking to build a M16 look alike.

One thing I will change is that it will have a detachable handle just in case I want to mount a scope.

If you're on a budget, then you need to think about completing the lower yourself. It's the best way to start, it's simple and easy to assemble.

Spike's Tactical makes some of the most popular lowers, if you can find one? They are that popular!

They're all machined from forged 7075 aluminum and finished with a hard anodizing coating. Spike's offers different model lowers that are all about the same with the only differences being cosmetic.

There are other manufacturers that offer similar packages and are more affordable. Stripped lowers can cost as little as $75, and often are found on sale for less.

CMMG, DPMS, S&W, SAA, and Aero Precision, to name a few. I use CMMG for budget builds and have never experienced a problem with them. I also like SAA and Aero Precision products. They're top quality for a budget price!

The best part is learning how all the parts are assembled, and learning what makes your rifle work. Then when something goes wrong you'll have an idea where to start. :)

I'm pretty close on getting the PSA stripped lower receiver only thing stopping me is the not having bought one from them before.

I have bought from them at least 10 times including a matched upper and lower. They have always delivered in a few days with no problems. In the case of the Lower, it was during their big $49.95 sale and it said in the add that they wouldn't be shipped till Jan 15th. My FFL received in on the 12th and I picked it up the next day. They even shipped the rest of my order to my home at no additional charge. I order ammo from them regularly and usually receive it within 2 days of ordering.

Dont get hung up too much on prices. I dont mind paying 99$ for a lower at a gunshow, because if I order from PSA im going to have to pay the 7 shipping and a 25$ transfer fee anyway.

I picked up 3 cmmg lowers last week at a gunshow for 99$ each, I saw them as high as 180 though. I try not to buy ANYTHING from gunshows though because they are typically way overpriced in my area.

EDIT: I should add that most lowers are made by the same companies, and the only diference is the stamp/finish. I believe CMMG and Spikes are both made by LAR.

Yeah, I looked at the gun show this past weekend and most of the lowers were way over priced. It's not about getting hung up on the price. It's more about not wanting to overpay, especially if they are all made by the same company.

For example: I probably cannot get a better deal if I bought the M&P 15 lower at my LGS ($139 + 7% tax) than if I tried to order it online ($120 + $10 shipping + $25 FFL fee). It sure costs a lot less than buying it from the gun show ($160 + 7% tax).

And so, if I can get th PSA for current price of $79 + $7 shipping and $25 FFL fee, surely would get a better deal if the PSA was to go back on sale for $49.95 with the same shipping and FFL cost.
