Strike Two for Bersa Thunder

QUOTE: "... I'm curious to see how the small revolvers feel with .38 rounds up to +P for self defense..."

You might want to take a look at the LCR chambered in .327 Federal Magnum; the biggest plus over the .38 Special/.357 Magnum variants imo being the six round capacity. An LCR so chambered is slated to replace a Colt Cobra in my "rotation".

Regarding your proposed trip to Old Salem in Winston Salem, take Walt's advice and make it your business to do so. Great experience. My youngest daughter worked in WS for a while in her capacity as an attorney before moving to Charlotte.

As for the real reason for your thread, I think you're doing exactly the right thing. You have to have complete trust in any firearm intended for use in self-defense, especially if it's in the hands of a loved one. In this respect, I think your Bersa has "struck out".

Regardless of what went wrong, how it went wrong, whether it was sent to the right place for repair, etc., this point right here plays a huge role, IMO.

For a defensive carry gun for somebody very close to me who doesn't understand the firearms the way that I do, has not yet grown attached to a particular weapons platform, and needs something that works reliably every single time I'm not willing to take that risk.
And I have to say that I'd take the same position. If my wife were having such issues with a carry gun that we'd lost confidence, we'd be shopping for a new carry gun, too.

Dakota.potts, I don't know much about the G42 or G43. I've shot an LCR a handful of times. The one I shot was chambered in .357, but I was shooting .38s out of it. Light, decent trigger (long, but smooth), and manageable recoil. I fired a cylinder or two of .357s out of it. Those were no fun whatsoever. By all accounts, the LCR is a good choice for carry. (I'll also admit that I'm something of a Ruger fan, so take that into account.)
