storing your ammo ?

The only ammo I have stored is about 20,000 22L rounds. The rest is all in componets. I keep the 22LR in plastic bags with a desicant, then inside a metal ammo can.

I see from this thread that there are different ways to store ammo that all work.

That's for sure. I even store different loads different ways and they all work for me.

Reloaded 9mm and .22.

Shotgun shells for the most part.

Most center fire rifle.

I have 31 50 cal ammo cans in the spare bedroom closet.
I use the cheap plastic ammo cans with the rubber seal. They don't stay full for long.
From one extreme to another.
Never saw the need to keep more than a useful amount, myself.
Kind of hard to pick up and run with much more.
More than likely it would just get left behind for someone else.
Unless yer going to outfit the entire neighborhood, or use a tremendous amount on a regular basis, what's the point?
Guess I just don't get it.

Sure, but what is a useful amount.../ its probably different for everyone.

In 9mm as an example ( and I reload ) ...I shoot about 8 - 10 boxes a week...so when I reload 9mm, I tend to load 2,000 or so at a time ..( 40 boxes )...and I stack it on a shelf inside my shop. Then I just pull from inventory ..and go to the range. When I get down to 8 or 10 boxes...I'll run another batch.

I pulled my last 3 boxes of .357 mag this am ...for my range trip today...so this afternoon and tomorrow, I'll run 40 boxes or so of .357 Mag ...case gage everything and box them up ...for use down the road. I only shoot 6 boxes a month of .357 mag...so I don't inventory as much of it as 9mm....

I like to load for the summer during the winter when it is too cold for anything else. During the summer I want to be out shooting.

The original shipping containers for ammo I will never use.
G.I. cans for the cases of factory ammo I will never use.
Ziplock bags with post it label inside for the handgun handloads I will never shoot.
Berry's plastic 50 round ammo boxes that I label for handloads I might shoot.

Level 1 hoarder: neatly stacked and well labeled boxes
Level 2 hoarder: Junk everywhere, but paths through the stuff
Level 3 hoarder: Junk ceiling high, no paths, no idea what is there

Psychologist to level 3 hoarder during intervention, "Come on now. You promised you would sort, put away and throw away."

Hoarder, [says nothing, but displays a painful look of decision fatigue.]

^^^^ :p
I shoot about 8 - 10 boxes a week
Back when I was a regular match attendee, a typical practice session might be 250 to 300 rounds.
Sometimes more.
And my old Dillon got a real workout.
But then one of the top shooters showed me how to get more effective practice with a fraction of that amount of ammo.
He called it focused practice.
Ever since, a typical session is under 100 rounds, sometimes only 50.
Anything more just seems like spraying lead.
Might be fun and provide an excuse to reload, but not any more productive.
Just a thought.

MTM is US made, and on par for price, the ammo crate holds about 3 1/2 50cal ammo cans worth of stuff. They all have gaskets. I'm really happy with mine. I usually keep one of the 40gram silca gel packs (the little metal box) in the the ammo can.
