Stop whinin' about recoil!!

Yo Piethinguy! that is not what I meant!!

its ok... dealing with crabby people are fun. its perfectly fine, you use your emotions... I will use my mind. all I meant was you see more huge black guys than you do white or asains. do you feel better? I included some other races.
I guess when I hear someone be vicious about the 'famous' 45, I think to my self
'I can get 9mm ammunition faster and stronger than 45 and the 2 or 3 millimeter
difference is not a big deal. dont get me wrong I like the thought of 45 and 44 for that matter. I intend on owning one I just would not be so close minded about it. gun forums are fun dont you think? :D

I forgot!

DOes anybody have a freaking clue where to buy 41mag amunition. is it louder than 357 or just different. any help is appreciated :)

Yeah big daddy 9mm,

I'm sure we all feel much better about you having a gun, go on, have fun dude. Oh, and don't send me any more msg's, I don't appreciate your humor, son.

I've said this before on TFL, so please forgive the repetition. :o When I was a youngster shooting wasn't fun unless the recoil blew my hand over my head, while putting the shot on target. In a way, it still isn't. That's one of the reasons why I recently ordered the new Ruger SRH Alaskan. :D I hope it gets here while I'm still above ground.

I agree recoil is subjective. So bring it on!!! :D

Interesting thread!

I've seen smaller people handle heavy recoil very well while larger guys didn't like it.

Me too! I think its because some stiffen up and try to stonewall the recoil and the others go with the flow which lessens the perceived recoil. I tend to try and ignore the recoil, keep the wrist locked, and let my whole arm rise while flowing backwards with it.

There is limits though. At 6'-1"/170, I can shoot 30 to 40 rounds of 300g/1400fps 44's before it starts affecting my CNS and becomes impossible to completely ignore... ;) :D

I've shot the 454's, nice but that rolls in your hand grip style (birdshead?) while helpful, sucks at the same time. I wasn't enamored of it and don't need that much power anyway. Hell I don't even need a 300 at 1400, whats the sense in it? I loves my SBH 44, its accurate, powerful, nostalgic..but like one poster said...beats the crap out of my middle finger with that square triggerguard. That's the gun and not improper recoil management!

I used to want a 50 BMG. Then I saw a huge guy at the range with one, must've been 350 lbs easy. He sat on one of those little folding chairs and benched that bolt-50 and with each shot, it set him & chair back aproxx 2 ft! I walked away reconsidering my previous desire to own a 50BMG. Do those 50's really recoil that much or was he just not managing it correctly?

cheygriz

The 629 is a ***DA*** revolver. Why on earth would you cock the hammer??

Speaking for myself, it's habit! Whenever I clear leather (yup, I can still do that :D ) with a wheelgun, it is automatic for me to draw, thumb cock in one motion, so the gun is ready to fire when the muzzle clears leather.

A little left over training from years ago when I was doing fast draw competition.

Regards,

I meant on offense pythonguy

son?.... you call me son? how do you know I am younger than you. I seriously meant no offense I find antaganizm and sharp comments to be my humor. I dont mean to rub ayone the wrong way. just goofing off with you :)
:D :) :) ;)

The worst recoil I ever had in a handgun was a Ruger SP101 with Hornady 125gr 357 full powered loads. And I shoot a 44, big bore rifles and shotguns. I love it when I see guys on the skeet range firing shotguns they can't handle and not man enough to admit it.

gray person response

I just get bigger heavier guns (like my 190 PF load from my 7.5" Redhawk; pussycat. My 215g 41 Magnum load from my 5.5" Redhawk at 240 PF? No. My 300g 44 Mag load from my 5.5" Redhawk at, lesseenow, 1800fps, that makes about a zillion PF. Actually my current 44 Mag PF runs around 192.)

BTW, Websters = "human race".

To each his own! I shoot with two guys that bought 500s. I notice they haven't brought them with for months! :) I have a feeling, if some people were honest, there will be a lot of "safe queens" out there. My experience is limited to two cylinders full. To be honest, I was expecting the recoil to be much worse than it was. The weight of the firearm seemed to make a big difference.

Normaly when I am saying somthing about massive recoil

:) my face has this on it.
Only once did a gun hurt me from recoil.
I was 16 and shot a friends 8mm Mauser. First high power rifle I ever shot.
Knew nothing about putting the gun hard against my sholder befor firing.
All I can say was that like many here have said, if it hurts, its too much gun for you, quit firing and put it away.
I have a contender in 44 mag that with hand loads will bring ether a smile or tears to your face. :)

Ergonomics is a big factor in determining whether recoil is tolerable or not. Shotgunners who shoot hundreds of 12 GA in a trap-shooting session know the importance of good gun/shooter fit/interface.

Where it comes to handguns, I find it more punishing to shoot my Model 640 which has the so-called 'boot' or Secret Service grips, with full-bore 357 loads, than to fire either the 8 3/8" or 4" M500s with 440 grain Cor-Bons. I've got big hands and holding a little gun which kicks is simply unpleasant, no matter how you slice it. Give me a big gun with a big, hand-filling grip on it, and I'm good to go.
