Stoeger double defense

I haven't been able to find anywhere with a real review of this thing

http://www.stoegerindustries.com/firearms/stoeger_double_defense.php

Are they on the shelves yet?

I really like the idea. I had been thinking about a double for HD for a while now, but held off because there was no good way to mount a light on it. Now that there is, I have no excuses.

There is a Stoeger dealer about 20 minutes from here, maybe I'll give them a call this week sometime.

My only real question about it is: Does it eject the fired rounds? For a defensive gun, I would think that to be a benefit.

Thanks to anyone who can offer some real info.

As long as you aren't confronted with multiple threats at once and you practice reloading break action,it should make a great home defense Shotgun.

If they offered that setup on a hammered coachgun, I'd be all over it. I could do without the optics but the underslung light is great. my backup HD weapon is a hammered coachgun, giving me near-instant access to two rounds of 12ga buckshot, pull the hammers and I'm set. Alas, I couldn't leave a hammerless shotgun locked and loaded.

I would prefer if it didn't have the porting. I would see that as a liability indoors, and in the dark.

I was actually thinking of more of a "after dark something is raiding the farm" type of gun.

Once I find one, I will probably pick it up. Depending, of course, on what it costs vs. what I have available and am willing to spend on it at the time.

So cool! I had heard about this thing, but I hadn't seen it until just now. The price seems reasonable as well. +1 on the porting being a negative, though.

I like the finish, I could do without the rails.
I think one of the great advantages of a coach gun is in the courtroom. With a red dot and a light I think that is lost.

I dunno, I like the all black and the single trigger but not EVERYTHING needs a tac-rail. when they gonna put the ar-15 collapsible stock on it?

it'd go great with a smith TRR8:D

did mossberg buy stoger?

in all seriousness they should have a provision for a shell holder on the buttstock

when I saw the regular single trigger coach I was interested, I'd take it without the rails and maybe a shell holder and feel free to loose the porting. it'd look really nice without the rails.

they gonna do the same thing to the condor outback over/under?

hold on, it looks like the rails are removable, maybe I might get one after all. I've been eyeballing stoger coach guns for a while now...

Here's my Stoeger coach gun. I've used it since 1998 in cowboy action. With practice, one can get pretty fast on the reloads. Mine's had the chambers polished and the action reworked where it'll open fast and wide. Forget the sights.

bigghoss, only the top rail is removable, and the stock is wood with a black finish, nothing special, probably just painted.

The bottom rail is what I was interested in, for mounting a light, as well as the fiber optic sight. I can see the use of both as a defensive weapon. In fact, I wouldn't choose a weapon to use for self defense in my home that didn't have a light, and a way to recognize the muzzle end in low light.

How do you think that court room will react when you shoot someone that was not an actual threat (percieved threat is not what a jury will care about, if the prosecutor is doing his job right)?

A good light will allow you to identify your threat, and your attorney will know that. So will theirs. They may try to use it against you, but if defended appropriately, a light can only help you.

in the pic it looks like it's held on with screws, it says factory installed which to me says they bolted it on but you could take it off. as opposed to the top rail which is just placed in the box.

but yeah I suppose if it was they might mention it. guess we won't know till someone get their hands on it.

Jury cases are as much about emotions as facts. Tactical won't do you much good in the court room.

I agree with some others that if they are going to go this route it def needs a shell holder of some sort. Why not include sling mounts if it is going to be tactical? I guess a wood stock is easy enough to install the rear in and you can put a front mount on the rail, but the shell holder and sling are the two biggest things for an HD shotgun(ScattergunBob, in every post I've ever read).

i have an O/U and SxS stoeger in 20 ga that i like. they do not break open as easily as i'd like but i guess they will wear in. i have a norinco 12 ga coach gun with the exposed hammers that i think is much better suited for home defense, because of the exposed hammers, and it breaks open more easily for reloads. as for all the hang on stuff about the only practical item i can see on a home defense shotgun would be an attached flashlight. lasers and such seem senseless to me on a street sweeper.
