Boycotting Smith and Wesson is not my choice.

Due to the onerous regulations imposed by the HUD/S&W agreement, the gun stores in my area are dropping Smith and Wesson like the proverbial hot potato.

I am given to understand that this will be common for most gun stores.

While the Government may or may not give S&W some business (I understand that the Secret Service is refusing to give up it's SIG's and the FBI already settled on the Glock as their new service weapon), civilian sales are what make-or-break a gun business.

Smith and Wesson has cut it's own throat. Don't lay the boycott blame on anyone else.

It really burns me that they turned,And I don't think it was all Ed Shultzs fault either. As I said in an earlier post I think he was taking his marching orders from Jolly Old England. If they want to suck up to the Klintonians then let them eat their guns,But they should have no right to dictate other sales and waiting periods. This is totally bull**** and I'm sure going to miss their guns.Especially that Schofield model. It looked like that was a real winner :(

Sent them an e-mail suggesting they ought to start looking for new jobs. The Brits have never gotten much right when it came to common sense. They tend to misjudge the obvious often, especially when it come to personal freedoms. S&W has no right to exist if it can not find the backbone to standup to comrade Clinton and his jackbooted thugs.

I'm thinking we've seen the end of the S&W moniker. S&W will go bankrupt.

I do hope, though, that some wealthy entrepreneur will buy the S&W design rights and begin to once again produce the S&W line (especially the revolvers). They could even license the S&W name without actually buying it, thereby avoiding law suits against the actual company.

I hope this all happens soon... I was really considering buying a model 945 out of the Performance Center this summer...

I'm saving up the cash now... if all this is still going on, I'll have to go with the Rock River Arms Elite Commando on a full size frame...

I already told S&W via E-mail that I no longer intend to buy the 945...

I finally emailed Ed Shultz, Told him I would never own another Smith product until they became American owned again and turned away from dirty politicians and their underhanded evil agendas. Not that I think this means a rats a** to him.
But in the way of the rest of the non caring American Shooting Public, The new Schofield page is still full of bids. Big money being offered to Ed and the rest of his Turncoats.

maybe this is the begining of gun dealers and gun manufacters sticking together.rsr is a MAJOR distributor of smith productS.i feel certain that ed shultz turned his email off along time ago and pays it no attention.rsr dropping the smith line WILL get his attention!!!!!!!i hope everyone in this industry will continue to to follow the lead of glock and browning and not buckle under to this adminitration.

Ben posted an important word in this raging debate: quality. S&W is no longer about quality. Quality is more than performance. It also encompasses integrity and ethics. When you read the article in the WSJ which details just how much of a coward Ed Schultz is by sneaking around in obscure government buildings to meet with white house shysters and enjoying barbecue with the agent provacateurs of an administration dead set on negating our freedoms as enumerated in the Constitution, how can you even begin to feel sorry for Smith & Wesson. Truly, with friends like S$W, who needs enemies?

While I don't have a problem with giving S&W a spanking for their gutlessness, the real villian here is the Feds. This is simple extortion, and we should spend less time boycotting S&W and more time screaming bloody murder at our elected reps. The government's actions are an illegal subversion of the legislative process, not to mention unethical as hell. They are common thugs who ignore the will of the people. Place your ire where it belongs! M2

I HATE WHAT S&W HAS DONE TOO THEMSELVES AND TO ALL THOSE THAT SUPPORT ALL FIREARMS MANUFACTURES TO MAKE A LEGAL PRODUCT FREE OF GOV. CONTROLS.HOWEVER I BELIEVE A BOYCOTT OF THEM OR ANY OTHER GUN MAKER IS PLAYING RIGHT INTO THE ANTI,S HAND.DONT YOU THINK THIS PROPOSED LAWSUIT BY HUD WAS CONTRIVED TOO ACHEIVE THIS TWO FOLD EFFECT.IF A GUN MAKER LIKE S&W SIGNS ON TO "THIER" SETTLEMENT PLAN THEY GET THE CONTROL THEY SEEK AND THE FALLOUT FROM PRO-GUN WILL FURTHER WEAKEN THE COMPANY.INSTEAD OF A BOYCOTT OF S&W,I BELIEVE WE SHOULD ALL CONTACT OUR REPS,AND GRILL THEM ON WHY THE PRESIDENT AND H.U.D.HAVE GONE UNCHALLENGED ON THIER ASSERTIONS THAT RESIDENTS OF GOV.HOUSING PROJECTS ARE TWICE AS LIKELY TO BE THE VICTIMS OF GUN VIOLENCE.IF THESE STATS.ARE TRUE,THEN I THINK IT IS OUR REPS.DUTY TOO TAKE DRASTIC STEPS TO PROTECT THESE PEOPLE.IF,HOWEVER,THEY FIND THAT THE REASON THAT THESE AREAS ARE A DANGEROUS PLACE IS BECAUSE OF GANGS,DRUGS,PROSTITUTION AND GENERALLY OPPRESSIVE CONDITIONS IN WHICH RESIDENTS ARE "FORCED" TO LIVE,THEN THEY SHOULD ALL BE CLOSED DOWN AND THE RESIDENTS DISPERCED FOR THIER OWN GOOD. IF THESE"CITIZEN PROTECTION LAWSUITS" ARE GOING TO BE USED TO PUSH THE GUN CONTROL AGENDA THEN WE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO INSIST THAT IT BE PUSHED TO THE LIMIT.YOU CAN BOYCOTT IF YOU WANT BUT DONT CRY WHEN YOUR NEXT GUN HAS SOME SORT OF TELEPATHIC LOCK ON IT OR WORSE YET,YOUR SITTING AT YOUR WORK BENCH TRYING TOO MAKE A GUN BARREL OUT OF WATER PIPE BECAUSE YOU CAN NO LONGER BUY ONE!ITS YOUR CHOICE!

I just read the agreement and it sent chills down my back. I find it almost surreal that here in the good ole US of A a President can blackmail (through threat of lawsuit) a private company making a legal product into accepting what I can only call draconian measures. I don't think that S&W will survive in the civilian market, even if us non-LEO gun enthusiast types were still willing buyers, simply because I don't know of any gun shops that can, or are willing to, comply with the requirements to become an authorized dealer. I have been to a lot of gun shops, and none meet these standards, or could for that matter without losing a lot of business. This is really a shame because I own 2 S&W's right now, including a 686 that I really enjoy. I was planning to buy a model 629 sometime in the next year or two, but now I don't think I can do this with god conscience (or even find one next year).

BTW, as a side note, I am currently reading a book very timely to this subject, called "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich", which is considered by many historians to be THE definitive text on Nazi Germany. The parallels between Hitler manipulating German industry for his own political gains and what we see today in our own firearms industry is absolutely frightening.

TO all those worried about Smith an Wimpy's treachery putting them out of buissnes...

1. Smith and Wessons agreement is so restrictive that one will most likely be hard pressed to buy one in the future WITH OR WITHOUT A BOYCOTT.

2. Smith and Wesson makes alot of diffrent things besides hadguns...I'm sure this will lead to a greater emphisis on golf clubs and hand-cuffs...and an occasional gun for our oberlorden (FEDS)... This will not likely put them out cold. So in the future if you Ben (or any others) would like to give over your freedom to buy a gun with a Smith name on it, you probobly could!

3. Despite all the suits, this is America. Ruger, Dan Wesson, Freedom Arms, Glock Ect. will be happy to pick up the slack (for now).
BAD Corporations go in and out of buissness all the time...

4. Too bad we cannot counter sue these cities (under rico statutes, or whatever) for conspiring to take away our rights to Arms...the courts seem deaf to the trurth...the LAST thing we should do is sit on our duff and take the punnishment with out some kind of action...in that sense WE MUST SHOW OTHER CORPORATIONS WHERE OUR SYMPATHY LAY! IT IS TOO LATE FOR SMITH AND WESSON!

5. OUR MONEY MUST GO TO THOSE WHO SUPPORT OUR RIGHTS....ELSE WE WILL SURLY LOOSE THEM AS THE DAY IS SHORT!

(All the more so when smith will be giving cash to fuel our enemies!).

By now, we can put the blame on the Feds, we know what to expect from them. If I go out tonight and pick up a call girl, perish the thought, and get caught by my wife, I won't be able to blame the hooker-----we know what to expect from her. Likewise, if Ed Schultz did not know in advance what to expect from the Clinton Administration, shame on him. In the meantime, we must support those who are supporting us. There is only one way to deal with Clinton and that is to fight fire with fire. Hindsight is 20/20 but the Republicans should have held their ground when he allowed the government to shut down. Since then, we have been the whipping boys of the Democrats. You can't run from a bully it will only get worse. You must call the bully out on the playground and give it your all. Eve if you get whipped, the bully will alwas rember that you will inflict pain on him and he will seek out easier targets in the future. Folks, we have straegized and re-strategized since this despot cameto power and it has got to stop. "If not us who? If not now when? We have not been divided. S&W is in the Clinton camp and the rest of us are aginst them. We must makelemonade and make it now. I'm sick of this posturing attitude the Republicans espouse always looking to the next election. The time to lead is now. Americans love a winner and they love those who push forward in spite of the odds.

[/quote]One can not judge the quality or integrity and ethics of a corporation by the actions of it's leader. What about the thousands of men & women who work hard everyday building a gun that use can use to save your life or that of a loved one. Do they deserve to lose their jobs because we are boycotting their company for it's actions when they had nothing to do with it? Maybe they do. Maybe they are the innocent casulities of war. But what happens if the shoe was on the other foot and you were in danger, through no fault of your own, of losing your job. Think of the hardships your family would suffer if you didn't bring home a paycheck for several months. How would you feel if you had to take a lower paying job and the standard of living your family was use to was lowered by several notches.

I don't like what S&W did! I think that the firearms industry should stick together but if they go under because of us boycotting their products, the top people who were responsible for this decision will be hurt a lot less than the thousands of good workers who had nothing to do with it.

A consumer boycott might be superfluous. If RSR will no longer distribute S&W products and other retailers and distributors refuse to participate in the agreement S&W will not be able to get their products to the civilian market. You won't have to boycott because the retailers will not be stocking the product in the first place.

Looks like there is suddenly a market vacuum for concealable, lightweight revolvers. Maybe Bill Ruger will step up to the plate with a concealed hammer, LIGHTWEIGHT five shot revolver and make up the difference. I'm betting Taurus will go the same route as S&W if Tomkins PLC has any say about it.

I need to add one more point as clarification. If distributors and dealers do not want to carry S&W products because they do not agree to the terms of the agreement, then I don't have a problem with that.

Not to worry. S&W can always open retail
stores at the various HUD offices around
the country. I suspect that will be the
ONLY conduit for them to reach the retail
civilian market before very long!

MAN! I just read the agreement and it is like something out of George Orwell's 1984 :( I don't know how Smith and Wesson will rebound from this in the eyes of the consumer. Ultimately people vote with their checkbook, and the almighty "$" has quite a voice. I will not buy a Smith so long as this agreement is in place. If that is forever, then so be it.

Mike

someone told me earlier that S&W would no longer sell firearms in stores that also sold "assault rifles" or "high capacity firearms."

I just read the entire thing and THAT is not the case. S&W will design their guns so that they can no longer ACCEPT original-cap mags. I need to get a few of their guns before they screw them up with too many safeties or REQUIRE a 10 round cap.

I still found it short, interesting, and giving up TOO MUCH,
Ben

There is more to life than money. I would leave S&W now if employed there. This is the difference between us and our fathers and grandfathers, principle meant something. These days only the S&P 500 means something.

I would no more work for S&W anymore than I would would for the IRS. I haave put my career on the line in the name of principle before and I will do it again. Jobs come and go but character is forever.

Read the agreement. Smith turned on us; we did'nt turn on them.

Ben you need to reread the agreement.

First S&W will only sell to dealers and distributors who agree to their code of conduct. Part of this code of conduct is that the dealers and distributors will not sell preban magazines or weapons described under the 1994 Assault Weapons ban regardless of date of manufacture.
