Today RSR Wholesale, Smiths largest distributor selling an estimated 25% or Smiths production, told Smith to go to hell. They have been selling Smiths for over 20 years and they said that Smiths deal was unacceptable and that they were severing ties with Smith and would no longer sell their stuff.

Good. Now if others do the same, maybe they'll learn their lesson on the way into bankruptcy court.

What other lines does RSR distribute?

They will need our support.

I love it! Maybye, just maybye, those of us who play by the rules will win. Remember what happened to the Health Care Issue. We can do it again. If all of us dump Suck-up and Wimper, RSR won't have to worry about lost sales since no one will order em' anyway. Let's hope RSR has other lines and if they don't maybye this action will endear them to some of the real handgun companies.

rsr is right down the road from me and they sell other makes,,,,at least in store on hwy200 I was in........fubsy.

RSR already sells Colt, Sig, Glock, HK, Ruger, Steyr, Browning, Taurus and about everyone else.

I hear another big distributor is about to drop the boot on Smith this week.

I give them less than a month before they close or file Chapter 11.

Great! Now we just have to get the word out to all the gunowners who don't pickup a newspaper or get online. If they boycott S&W, the company will be up sh!t creek.

"I see your recent decision to agree to sweeping and intrusive political stipulations as a financial one, but I think your planning cannot have included the impact of your decision on your target market.

I understand the position you hold as one of the most respected and established firearm makers in our country's history; I regret that I must inform you that you have joined the ranks of potential suppliers that I will never purchase another product from. Let me advise you I purchase an average of two handguns a year- and tend to keep product loyalty, once I find a worthy maker- to help keep your lack of corporate courage in financial perspective."

My next piece is likely to be a wheelgun, too- but it won't be a Smith.

This is REALLY intelligent... let's put a quality gun manufacturer out of business. That sounds REALLY SMART.

You can only "learn a lesson" if you're around afterwards to change your ways. S&W won't learn a darn thing if they're OUT OF BUSINESS because you boneheads boycotted them!!! These sorts of contracts are NEVER taken back... just like taxes are never eliminated. You guys should know that by now. They still have to live with what they signed. I'd still rather have a "pinko-commie-whatever" gun maker than NO GUN MAKER. That's NOT to say I agree with constant concessions.

THINK about what you are doing BEFORE you do it,
Ben

Ben, good luck picking up the slack for the rest of us that will never buy Sick&Wimperin again. I used to really like em too. I was wanting to buy a .357 from them as my very next purchase but not now. When will the socialist Brits learn not to meddle in American affairs. ddt

Hopefully this lowers the price on their guns. Now I regret buying a used wheelgun and should of waited till you guys decided to boycott.

I was sympathetic toward S&W until I was watching the news last Saturday morning and my jaw dropped open. The Clinton administration gave S&W a favorable status and urged military and law enforcement agencies to purchase their weapons from S&W. Kinda sounds like a sweetheart deal to me. Maybe S&W doesn't need the private citizen anymore.

I was lining up the purchase of 2 new Smiths
the SW99 and I was going to go after one of their new Scholfields, Thats ashame because that one there was a beaut. But I will no longer even consider it. I will still look at used Smiths that are shall I say Pre-Sellout.
No problem with that :) Now if they should become American owned again and tell the Klintonians to shove it,well we will see.
My 2 pennies worth :)

remember Aesops fable of the woodcutter? a woodcutter went into the forest with an axe head looking for a handle. he asked the large oaks and beeches "give me a piece of wood for a handle for my axe". "if you do i will leave the forest". the mighty trees talked among themselves and decided that he could have a lowly ashe tree at the edge of the forest. the woodcutter fashioned a handle from the ashe and started cutting down the mighty trees. moral-as go the weak so go the mighty. selling out your neighbors is the road to ruin.

this devide and conquer crap is what the antis want. Gore, Clinton, Hillary and all the other ultra liberals are in seventh heaven now boy. so goes S&W, so goes all the other trees, oaks, maples and beeches. before you guys beat each other backs and gloat about even one major manufacturer going bust. think about this, how much forest do you think will be left in 5,10 years now that the woodcutter has a handle for that damn axe.

Ben,

Obviously you haven't read the actual agreement Smith signed. In it it tells dealers that they

1)All employees have to be trained and tested by the ATF before they can sell ANY guns.

2)All gunshops must set up at their own expense a computer system to track all gun dispositions, ATF trace requests and turn them over whenever the ATF requires.

3)Dealers cannot sell magazines over 10 rounds or assault weapons period. Same for gun distributors.

4)The contract was signed with the treasury department who oversees and regulates this agreement.

5)Dealers and distributors will have to give 1% of their sales to the government.

6)Dealers cannot sell anyguns that do not meet the design characteristics described in the agreement.

There are many more boners in this agreement, and it would hurt the industry and our freedoms. That's why RSR and most dealers will drop Smith and it's by their own hand. Go here to read the actual agreement http://www.nraila.org/research/20000321-BillofRightsCivilRights-002.shtml

If you want to contribute to a foreign owned company who sold us all out, go ahead. But then don't cry when you can't buy a gun in the future thanks to their actions.

About learning a lesson, this had nothing to do with S&W learning a lesson. It's about everyone learning a lesson.

Keep in mind, despite their compromises, Glock was the real clincher for this. Local dealer said "I'm tempted to ditch S&W, I sell 5 Glocks for every Smith, and sell every one I get".

Remember, if Glock turned, dealers would not be able to afford to drop them both. Remember, if this happened it would be US learning a lesson (between you and me I think we're all still feeling the rest of Klint's lessons).

I still don't think Smith is dead. Yeah, there are a lot of civilian sales; but we all know da*n well that that will not be the case in 20 years. Police departments will be buying guns batch/direct, not from gun dealers selling to civilians. Police/military firearms sales is the only future, civilian sales ARE the past.

Battler.

I agree and disagree with Ben. While I would not like to see S&W go out of business, a boycott of their products might make them come to their senses and terminate their agreement with HUD. After all, this is just a contract and not a law. If they violate the terms of the contract, they will lose their preferred status and be subject to lawsuits again -- which is the same position that they were in before they signed this agreement. S&W may still come back from the ashes and if they see the light, I think the shooting community should welcome them back with open arms for the simple reason that we can't afford to lose a quality gun maker. If they don't get out of this agreement, then that's a different story.

my point exactly; i support the boycott of any company that sells us out. economic survival will be the key to saving our gunmaking industry. but selling out is NOT the key. the key is the industry and it's supporters and customers sticking together. i only mean that this is a funeral not a party or a bash fest. i feel the demise of a long term friend in S&W. of course we lost them in fact long ago when the damn Brits bought them out.

Like I said, I don't support what they did. But dropping them completely is out of the question in my opinion. I still like many of their guns and hope to obtain as many as possible before they screw them up.

take care guys,
Ben
