Steyr will announce new importer on Feb 15th.

I respectfully disagree. The Steyr series of pistols I owned briefly (A M357 and a S9) were the ONLY pistols I've EVER owned that had a malfunction straight out of the box. Both of these pistols experienced failures to feed within the first 100 rounds after being cleaned and lubed brand new out of the box.

Now I know you are going to say, "But, you need to let them break in for 250 rounds". And I say, "I've never had to do that with any of my Berettas, Glocks, Sigs, Walthers, OR H&Ks". Don't say it was ammo, because in both cases, the ammo that produced the problems, worked fine in my H&K USP-C 357Sig and Walther P99 that were shooting side by side with them. Factory ammo including Remington, Winchester, RWS/Geco, PMC, S&B.

That's why I got rid of them, making a little profit on each.

I'm not saying they are not nice pistols, but, they are not better than H&Ks and Walthers.

James

one of the articles i read about their 357 was that it DOES have problems right out of the box. the author went through two seperate guns that had to be sent back. it seemed to be a design flaw, and i want to say that its the firing pin that gets gunked up and can break, but i might be wrong, its been a few weeks since i read it. the author said that this problem is not present in the 40 or 9mm.

i've talked to several people who have either the M series or S series, and only two have had negative feedback on them. my tax refund will be paying for one of these.

My M40 has been 100% reliable. I wasn't happy with the factory sights, so I changed them to IMX three-dot night sights with a conventional bar-notch sight picture. I have an S9 on the way, and as soon as the S40s are in this country, I'll buy one I am sure.

Ken,
I noticed that you didn't say anything about your M357 being 100% reliable. I know that you sold it last year. Was it because of reliability problems?

Just curious :D

James

My M357 had problems *only* with Sellier & Bellot ammo (maybe one in a hundred rounds), which I consider crappy anyway. Many dud rounds. Half the dud rounds would fire after being rechambered, but the other half wouldn't. Almost two years ago I bought 500 rounds of S&B .40 Auto and .357 Sig, and it caused nothing but problems in anything that used it.

Anyway, I sold the M357 because I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the M40. It was a bit snappier. I didn't sell it at a loss. I would have rather kept it than less it at a loss. If I felt it as crappy, I would have sold it for a loss. I enjoy my .357 Sig Glocks, though.

If I didn't feel that the Steyr pistols were any good, I would have sold my M40, and also wouldn't have ordered an S9.
