Steyr will announce new importer on Feb 15th.

Yeah ... I saw that ... Boy I wish it was going to be me :)

but the lack of an FFL, and any money pretty much knocks me right out of the running :(

Great news

The would be great...I love my Steyr M series pistol..
What is the URL for steyr??

Man, am I excited to hear that. I am in the process of choosing my first gun and tried and fell in love with the M9. I was worried that if I bought one and they didnt get a new disty, that I wouldnt be able to get service in the event I needed it. I definately know what I am getting now. Yippee!

If they begin/resume importation of the S40 and S357, one of those two guns will be on my 'must buy' list.

STEYR, ARE YOU LISTENING? ;)

Mike

Well that's good news. I like my Steyr M9 a lot and am pleased to hear that there will be continued parts, etc...

Now for an S9....

Thanx for posting the URL. I was happy to see that they were going to start re-importing. My wife wasn't though ["You don't need another gun"].

When the price drops a little on the S9, I'm gonna try and pick one up.

here is some info from the shot show report
http://www.shotshowreports.com/

STEYR – I found out the story on Steyr. The rifles and handguns will still be imported to the U.S. by Dynamit Nobel of New Jersey. There is a backlog on the
handguns because of the spotty availability over the last 8 months. They intend to correct that with emphasis placed on getting in the S40. The S will NOT be
available in the .357 SIG caliber as they have determined that the design is not sufficiently strong to handle the added pressures for an extended period. Initially the
effort will be in the M and S series for .40 and 9mm, but we will eventually see the .45 ACP versions as well. The .45 will not use the 1911 magazine as Wilhelm
Bubits had originally intended because Steyr is concerned about all the bad 1911 mags floating around the U.S. and do not want the pistol to get a ad rap because
someone used a cheap mag. We could see the .45 as soon as the SHOT Show next year. I think that an S45 will be a BIG seller in the U.S. We may see an L
series .45 sometime, could be a few years though. It would be much more likely to happen if the full cap mag ban sunsets in 2004. The XS series will not happen at
all, it has been permanently shelved. The XS used one of the super high velocity .22 cal centerfire rounds that could penetrate a Kevlar vest, yet the pistol was
plastic and about the size of a NAA Guardian.

I just shot my M9 today and love it. When the S series starts back up, it's on my list. I may even order one from CDNN, but they are so expensive. I paid $369 for my M9 new, was hoping to find and S series for about the same or a little more.

I called Dynamit Nobel this morning, and they gave me their web site URL (no Steyr offerings are listed yet): http://www.dnrws.com/

Steyr's updated web page (seems to be work in progress) is at the following URL: http://www.steyr-mannlicher.com/

The person with whom I spoke at Dynamit Nobel USA said that they are expecting their first shipment of Steyr firearms in April. She said that their president is traveling to Steyr in early March to figure out all of the details.

For those in California, I strongly urge you to send a letter to Dynamit Nobel (81 Ruckman Road, Closter, New Jersey 07624) to encourage them to submit the Steyr pistols for California testing as soon as possible.

I've read on the Web that Steyr-M's have had reliability problems. Is this true? $369 seems pretty cheap for a pistol. Maybe a bit too cheap. Is reliability an "issue" with the M's?

MasterBlaster
I have put over 500 rounds through mine, and have not experienced any problems whatsoever.
The old trigger group on the first ones imported had some problems, they were too heavy, but that has been fixed.

The quality on these guns is second to none as far as polymer guns go. If you want one cheap, better get it quick, I can see the price rising on these in the near future. Everyone wanted to get rid of them because the company was on the rocks. Now that they have proven that they are going to remain solvent, the price will likley rise.

They are better guns than the USP series IMO.
