Steyr M9 or Glock 19?

LE magazines for Steyr M40/M357 - 12 rounds, M9 - 14 rounds

twoblink, what are the extra 2 safeties? I only count 3; Trigger safety (like Glock), Manual safety and key lock

I too was looking at a Glock or a Taurus PT145 when I bought my M40. Part of the reason I bought the Steyr was the price, but after burning through a few boxes of ammo, I love my Steyr and am glad I got it over the Glock (I have a Glockster buddy who has let me fire several of his Glocks).

But again, you can't go wrong with either one (despite what some of the diehard Glock fanitics will tell you ;) )

3 safeties (2 internal, 1 trigger) and then the external one, and then the key locked one.

2+1+1+1 = 5

I love my Steyr. Superior in every way. Lower felt recoil also..

Let me ask you a question.

One of the largest Steyr dealers in WA state has a couple of employees that used to carry Steyrs. They got good prices.

Well, over the past couple of months, they've dumped them and bought Glocks.

What does that tell you?

And where is the Steyr sport Shooting Foundation?

The enthusiasts' website?

What about steyr's customer service? Not heard much about it.

And what are there, 34 Steyr stcoking dealers US wide? compare that to any of the major brands and you may find yourself looking for parts. Or worse, what about all of those certified Steyr armorers? There aren't many at all.

I've shot three different Steyrs during steel plate shoots. They were nice handling but for the money, I think they are more akin to HS-2000s, SW99s, and South African-made Vectors with a little more attention to fit and finish. No thanks.

As for me and mine, the Glock 19/26/30 carries just fine.

If it's Austrian-made drastic plastic, there can be only one . . .

I don't know what that says...but unless they threw their Steyrs in the trash and told you not to buy one I'd say it doesn't say anything (I'd be willing to bet they either traded their Steyrs in on .45acp Glocks or slim-line Glocks, but I'll bet it wasn't because they found the quality of their Steyrs lacking).

There are only 4 models of Steyr handgun available (M357, M9, M40, S9), and they have only been available for a short time. Not enough people nation wide own them yet in order to make an entire shooting foundation... maybe someday (although I'd bet that most of the Steyr owners are also Glock owners).

As for enthusiasts' sites, there is http://www.remtek.com/arms/steyr/index.html (not much, but it's something)

Well everyone I've talked to who owned one of the early Steyr M series pistols said that when Steyr offered the trigger upgrade for free the turn-around time was quick. (the one I bought is in the 5000 SN Range, and the PO said his pistol was not gone more then a week when he sent it in for the trigger upgrade)

Plus I've never heard anything but glowing accounts of GSI's customer service.

Again, not as many Steyr's in people's hands...that will change.

There's a lot more Chevy dealers in the US then Porsche...I'm happy with my Porsche and I'm happy with my Steyr ;)

Either the HS-2000, SW99 and Vector are much better made then I thought, or you're being a little hard on the Steyr.

Your G30 is .45, your G26 is a slimline...the only Glock you have that competes with the Steyr is your G19 (which competes with the M9)...sounds like you got ann apples to oranges thing goin on here.

This whole Steyr vs. Glock debate is begining to sound about as useless as the old PC vs. Mac debate.

Oh well...variety is the spice of life brotha JT ;)

Notice not once here have I questioned the quality of Glock.

Have had an early M40 in the 001xxx ser. # range for 1 1/2
yrs. Liked it with the "orig." trigger & the modified one.
Also have a g23, Steyr wins hands-down in pure "shootability"
IMO.

Shot both. The Steyr is a better pistol. Better grip, better trigger, better sights.

But I would go with the Glock simply because you can get 15rnd mags for it.
