Holy Smokes

Just starting your collection? I am already way behind your list. I have had the same three guns for almost 20 years, finally added a fourth this year. A little jealous for your start.

Starting? You're darned near finished! Looks good. Remember, less is more. Shoot more; collect less. It's more enjoyable that way. Buy fewer guns, of higher quality.

You need at least one evil assault machine in the quiver. How about a PTR-91?

And, no collection is final without a genuine hi-cap assault pistol - Might I suggest a Sig 556 pistol. I'm actually being serious here; since I like to collect "assault pistols". Someday, you won't be able to buy them anymore.

Flintlock long gun. Flintlock pistol to go with it.
Caplock long gun. Black powder cap and ball revolver to go with it.
Three or four or seven milsurp bolt guns.
Don't bother with semi-automatics. Those are just a passing fad anyways.

I agree with some pistols. I'd also suggest an m1a or garand or m1 carbine or better yet all the aforementioned. Ar is a no brainer. For pistols, no collection is complete wo a 1911.

What do you wish for your collection? I have a lot of family heirlooms and older military rifles and pistols then a few odd balls thrown in. I know others who collect lever actions, and some milsurp bolt action, and a few that just want to amass as many as they can.

Be careful, it is a very slippery slope.....

Add more???

Decide why and let why inform what.
If you are looking for collecting to have and to hold, whatever floats your boat.

If you want them to use, decide how you want to use (self protection, home protection, target, hunting, etc, etc). Look for holes in your collection and fill after research. You have enough firepower to slow down and concentrate on quality and mastering their use.

Using too many different firearms before you are proficient in one makes it difficult to master and perfect technique / accuracy.

I am a novice also and have 2 rifles and 2 handguns. In these cases, My first rifle and me first handgun were bought on the basis of recommendations. They were good starters, but I learned a lot about what I wanted from my firsts and applied what I learned in the selection of my 2nd rifle and handgun.

Lots of shotguns... :) I think I would add a Browning BPS.

When I started out, I had bought a 20ga shotgun for small game hunting. I later sold it as my post college life made small game hunting difficult. My intention was (and still is) to buy another sporting shotgun when the need develops. I bought a 12 ga Remigton M870 Police shotgun for "home defense". I think I shot that gun a total of five times in 15 years. But, it's there should I need it.

The black rifle suggestion is reasonable as one to acquire in the future. The Mini-14 actually handles that role pretty well as they are very reliable, but not a good what I would call much of a precision shooter. That's okay. They fulfill their designed role quite well in my opinion. I have one. I have owned other EBR's, but I am unwilling to feed them properly and hence sold them. No regrets.

As far as future acquisitions, I would look at a varmint rifle and perhaps another 30-caliber (ish) hunting rifle in a non-magnum caliber. But you so have the Marling 30-30 (Model 336 I presume) and the Remignton 7600 30-06.

I would also look at buying a higher end 22 rifle such as a CZ 452/453/455, perhaps a lever action 22 such as a older Marlin 39A or one of the Henry's, and a Ruger 10-22.

You have to own a 10-22. It is just the way things are! :) This statement is kind of like woods use knives.... you have to have a Kabar Becker BK-9. (I don't, but I do have a BK-7.)

If the military rifles appeal to you, I would look at a Garand or one of the older Mausers or Springfields (WWI or WWII vintage).

Jump into handguns when you are ready. But I would choose a good 22 first and then a carry gun that you can also use for home defense.

collecting is all about what you like... not really what other people think you should have. All that being said, I think everyone should own a 12 pump, 4" 38 special, bolt action 22 and a magazine fed semi-auto rifle of the 30cal variety.

Man if that's your start point, I'd love to see your collection when you get it finished. Like others have said a 10/22 would be a real nice addition. For now that is.

There are collectors, and there are gathers. A collector generally focus's on a certain subject. Maybe it's a certain make, or platform. Get educated on the focal point you've chosen and then join a collector organization that supports your focal point. Put that all together and you will have a wonderful time pursuing it. It also has the ability to become a very good investment. When we spend as much as we do with this hobby, it well becomes a business and investment strategy has to be considered. Enjoy it fully

Smith and wesson 'K-frame'

.38 or .357 doesn't really matter. They are the high point of double action revolver design.

I would encourage you to look into adding some semi auto's/1911 and revolvers.

My recommendations would be a springfield xdm in 9mm, sig p250(ccw), or any kimber if price isnt a big deal.

Revolver: any s&w of any caliber, ruger gp100 or sp101 in 357 mag. Ragging bull in 44mag.

I have all that I recommended and wouldnt have it any other way :)
