St. Pete man angers neighbors with gun range in yard

Clearly a win-win. I hope Shooters World get great press. Unfortunately the home made range builder has probably screwed up any chance of a relationship with his neighbors.

Im glad I live in a rual area , I have a huge dirt pile for a back stop and the angle puts anything that could get over or around it into the ground . With houses being built and surounding land changing hands I will one day have to look into driving to a shooting range to stretch my long rifles out .

Why would anyone assume that level of risk along with pure hatred from the neighbors?
That whole thing is bad judgement at best, complete idiocy at worst.
Ricochet off the hardwood pallets, hit a nail, have a ND across everyones yard... The list of bad outcomes is endless.

Its good that someone gave him a free range membership... But its kinda like rewarding him for being stupid plus drawing unwanted negative attention to gun rights and making "us" appear dangerous and unreasonable gun nuts.

I built a Range in my back yard 20 years ago . I have a 25-50-100 and 200 yard bench . I also have three neighbors Two of them use my range at will . The backstop is dirt 25 feet long 10 feet high and 20 feet deep behind it is 300 yards of woods that I own . I shoot when I feel like it never at night or real early in the morning . The closest house is 1/4 mile and not anywhere in line of the range . I have had state police and county police shoot on my range .
My Range is used a lot before hunting season and I use it year around . I feel it is as safe as can be made .

Preemption is one of our strongest legal tools here in Florida when people don't abuse it.

The man has now ceased firing and is lobbying to have the law changed. He's selling the pallet on eBay, claiming it will be a piece of history because "the law will be changed soon" because if it.

Screams "plant" to me

As was the 'gentleman' in Big Pine Key a couple of years ago.

It is bad enough Florida has captured the national spotlight for over-the-top gun laws, including Stand Your Ground, which removed the requirement that people try to retreat from a threat before resorting to deadly force.

Now, Florida is poised to be the capital of backyard shooting ranges.

Fodder for the anti-gun folks.

Carannate

Carannate is an idiot and he makes all gun owners look bad. This is just foolish
and dangerous, and it gives the anti-gunners more arguments.

There may not be a sound ordinance. In most places in the USA if you live out side the city limits you legally can shoot provided the bullet does not leave your property.

My Backstop is a Moutian that rises a few 1000 feet and is about 1200 feet from where I shoot. There is also about 400 feet of wooded area with lots of no trespassing signs. It also helps that there is several miles between my home and the nearest neighbors.

As I own and reside at the place I grew up , have had this place 49 years I have seen folks move into this rual are and complain about what I or others that live "out here" do . It is agrivating so I know what I have done when someone trys to tell me what I can do on my property . First I would have done my studies to see what the laws and regulations are then built my shooting range way beyond that then shot all I wanted to . Knowing my dark side I probly would have drug a couple of junk cars near the property line and said I was restoring them or possibley built a feeder pig pen if allowed wich both would be here . Dont think I ever want to live in town .

Very, very very poor example of firearms responsibility. "We" don't need guys like that claiming to be responsible gun owners.
If I had kids at home in that neighborhood, I'd be hiring lawyers, cameras and a sniper team.
Exactly, I also get tired of the morons who claim to be on the side of responsible gun owners.

I would like to hear how folks that live in town do most of thier shooting as hear there is no shooting in city limits . Out side of city limits one can shoot on private property and a few places owned by the county .
I could not bring myself to shoot at a public range in the direction of houses unless the back stop blocked out any view and chance that a bullet could make it past .

I live in the city. I am with a gun club that is located next town over. They have a hill as backdrop, beyond which are homes and ranches. They maintain strict rules that bullets will need to hit the berm at the foot of the hill, and no shooting before sunrise or after sunset or the backdrop is fog covered. They have been in good terms with their neighbors for 40 years.
