Ain't nothin' cute about squirrels in the attic. Of course, they only chew on unimportant plastic stuff like electrical wires and PVC plumbing.

I've dusted many a squack coming out of the attic vent. Little bastards could tear up a crow bar in a sand pit!

i see squirrels as food and PITAS. had 2 chew a hole in the dining room screen of my dads home years ago. they knocked over a lamp that was my grandmothers and broke it. scared the hell out of my mom. got on the kitchen counter and pooped on it and got into a box of cookies on the counter as well. father in law had one get in his attic and chewed some wires. got shocked and died. poor little sucker.

When I was younger I used to shoot everything that moved, except mockingbirds (because its our state bird, against the law;)) and purple martins (because Dad said, "Dont you F*ING shoot my purple martins!!!") But I thought everything else was fair game, until one day I shot a squirrel and Dad said, "So, you're gonna eat that thing right?". I was like, hell no... but he MADE me gut it, skin it, and cook that little bastard and eat it... Hell, with garlic and butter, and grilled, everything tastes good.. :D But tell that to my wife when I brought in a half dozen squirrels and she told me, "You aint bringing them things in my house..." (I think its time for a new wife...:p)

But since now that I live in the city, I cant shoot anything from the back door, but we have rabbits and squirrels that like to play in our yard, and they sure are a hoot to watch sometimes.

squirrels hunt???

are squirrels hunt seen as hunting in the USA? i would say that is some sort of target practice, no? hunting do take some skills, yes?

The squirrels out in places like the State Forests around here are not the half-tame critters like those I saw around my apartment in college or in city parks. They can be quite elusive requiring patience and, yes, some skill.

Being super cute myself that would place me into a protected class.

david, the only thing you have in common with cute little squirrels is body hair!

seriously, out here (NW kansas) we dont have many squirrels. wonder if theyve all been shot and eaten?

Funny thing about squirrels. Squirrels, when viewed up close, are not cute. They are infested with parasites like fleas, ticks and maggots. It is no wonder why they usually dont live longer than two to four years. Rarely do squirrels die of old age. Many die from predatory or human activity. Of the few that survive those factors, a small percentage die of starvation...but the large majority die of disease.

Not only are they disgusting vermin, but I find them persistently annoying.

My wife has the opposite reaction to squirrels, chipmunks, woodchucks.....she hands me the pellet rifle and points to the yard. I'm very good with a squirrel but really love to shoot chippers out of trees; the kind of pop! into the air. When a girlfriend of hers lamented that it was cruel, my dear wife responded with our caveat, "They're all cute until they want in to the house, then they die!"

Here ya go. Tell her it is a true adult squirrel:)

I used to love squirrels, and acually never killed any in the states cuz i thought they was sweet too.

However during my first year living in Guatemala I learned to love them in another sense...on my plate. I was living in a village and had not recieved a support check for 3 months(don't forget to support your local charity folks) and i was gettin real hungry, i mean losin a couple pounds hungry. Well one of the projects i had going was macadamia nut trees and each tree was literally stiff with Squirrels. It did not take me long to grab my .22 and strt supplying myself witha daily supply of meat, soon to be followed by Possum, and armadillo. Hey desperate times call for desperate measures.

sure you can dr. not sure how i'll get it to ya. and if there is anything left of it. been buried awhile. i don't see any squirrels here on my land, they run across the road now and then. groundhogs, geese, horses, occasional crow is all i be seeing.

lt dan, squirrel hunting has been an important hunting endeavor since this country began. Out in the boonies, you have quite a game between the hunter and the squirrel. Squirrels keep tree limbs between themselves and hunters. So, the hunter has to figure out "squirrel psychology" or else use a trained squirrel dog.

Sit down. Be very still. Make a few squirrel noises, to see if Bushytail sticks a head up to look. Or, just have the patience to be very still for long enough that the squirrel forgets that the hunter is anywhere near.

A trained little dog will go to the opposite side of the tree from the hunter, where the squirrel is doing the out-of-sight thing with the hunter. The squirrel then forgets about the hunter, and goes around the tree from the dog. That's an "Oops!" mistake.

Squirrel hunting can also make a person a pretty good shot on a running critter, for that matter. Might be tree-to-tree, or might be ground-to-tree.

Squirrels make dang good dumpings and some of the best gravy you ever tasted. As a boy I lived for squirrel season to start and have shot my share of them over the years. Have to say though I have not shot one since the mid 80's. Some reason I let deer hunting take over my life and have not been squirrel hunting since then. Oh heck yea, I could hit the woods and get my limit if food got scarce and I had to.

Like the ol saying goes: A COUNTRY BOY CAN SURVIVE.
