Springfield XD

I got my wife on

when they were HS2000's and I don't like 9 mm, but it is one of the best shooting guns I have ever shot. It is second only to my(very old) P220 38 Super. Try it, you'll like it

Hi, I also got one when they were the hs2000. made in Croatia and now being marketed by Springfield. price went up a bit but still a good buy. I love mine. very good shooting and pretty accurate. at least as good as my glock. do a search under hs2000 and you should find a lot of info. most people seem to really like them. mine will shoot about any type of ammo, even the really cheap stuff without a problem. I also really like the grip safety. makes me feel more secure when carrying than the glock does. try one. think you will be pleased. good luck. WSH-SA

Not that it means a great deal, but the May 2002 gun-tests magazine rated the Springfield XD at top honors -- a "Best Buy' pistol:

"We can't vouch for this pistol in every caliber [they just tested the 9mm version], but as a platform for launching 9mm Parabellum we feel it is very close to ideal. The size and grip feel natural, and the trigger is consistent. These are attributes rarely seen in this price range, in our opinion. Springfield Armory XD, $489."

According to the author, the XD is a slightly new version of the HS2000, with improved quality control, bumping up the price from $419 for the HS to $489 for the XD. And the XD is $200 less expensive than it's rival best buy competitor, the HK USP at $699.

I dunno...

I do like em a lot. Seems like a sound desgin w lottsa promise. Haven't read any bad about em in the gunzines, but what do ya expect? Some names I trust (Johnston, Wilson, Huntington, Ayoob, Petty, Rauch) said very good things about them though.

Still...

Had 2 HS2000s, and have 2 XD-9s. I've shot 6 different XD-9s and 3 different XD-40s. Some of them had trouble w FTE (failures to extract) and FTF (feed). If Gun Tests had shot those, woulda been ugly? Have heard of other XD-s that worked OK for a few hundred, even a few thousand rounds, then started to have the same problems. Kinda odd? Usually a gun starts out rough and smooths out, not the other way 'round?

The 9 and 40 seemed pretty much identical as far as slide/spring weights too. Means the 9 is over-engineered and one tough cookie, or the 40 is on the edge? ;)

Ya never can tell until a few thousand folks start messing with them, a few agencies do some objective T&Es and get em in service? Gonna be a few yrs before we know for sure? After all, the Glock failed the DEA test in 92 and had several parts "upgraded", 10 yrs after it came out and had already been NATO approved!

Ya would think after the Steyr, some folks would learn? ;)

I recently bought a very slightly used 3rd generation HS2000. I heard/read so many positive things about these guns, I had to find out for myself.

Concerning guns, I'm a "real picky somebody" and I really like this gun a lot! The trigger is very nice, it's been totally reliable and is frequently more accurate than several of my "high dollar" guns. As soon as I can get my hands on a SA-XD357 (357SIG), I'll buy it.
I'm impressed.

Actually, the Steyr M is still about my favorite gun. Too bad there is zero support for it and it's withering on the vine. It could'a been really hot with the right technical support and marketing. Well, I never did have a betamax tape machine though :)

My buddy shot one, and he loves it - says the ergonomics are great - finally someone outglocked the glock, it appears - oh, besides the Steyr M, you're right - yeah, too bad it wasn't marketed better.

Only problem is that you're limited to 10 rounds, I believe, so get a .40, or wait to see if the std cap mag ban sunsets. Seems to me that this Springfield or the SigPro are prolly the best values in polymer.

I've had an HS2000 Gen 1 just about since they were first offered and it has been great. It's accurate, reliable and a ball to shoot.

The Crock is a decent gun. But there are lots of good guns. Pros and cons to all guns.

Shoot it and see if you like it. Do you have access to a buddy's or a rental range. Rent a Crock.

If you like it, buy them in pairs and bunches of mags.

Someone compared this pistol to the Styer M series.

Thyey are simler since they are both SA autos.

The HS 2000-XD Springfield pistols are a much better design as far as safety.

The Styer does not have a slide mounted firing pin lock like the HS-XD does.

The internal safetys only block the sear.

Slightly.

Hey, I like the idea of the XD a lot; I just like results better. Seeing/hearing about too many "lemons" for now.

Time will tell if it's a problem or just bad luck?

Meanwhile the Glocks and BHPs will have to do. ;)

I have the XD-40 and like the pistol alot. No failures to feed or eject so far. I could see it being as big a seller as Glock in the next few years as word gets out on how good it really is. Try one for yourself and you will fall in love.
