The 3" XD, the 3" mod2, and the 3.8" xdm are all practically same the damn thing. I'm looking at all three 40sw models on springfields website. The xdm is the only one with the 16rd "X-Tension" BS and a slightly longer barrel. Oh my god, big deal.
actually, the XDM has replaceable backstraps where the XD and XD2 does not in addition to a completely different trigger design, it may not look it from the profile, but the triggers on the XDMs are nicer. the XDM also has a completely different profile which you would see if you weren't just looking at the side view profiles on springfield's website. XDMs have more angular, rounded off slides making them easier for concealed carry. why don't we talk about the 2 dozen different renditions of the beretta 92/m9/96 which all look completely identical, yet all have competely different uses according to marketing?
you are whining about stupid stuff being molded into the plastic? well Colt has been doing this since 1909
people act like this is a new fad which started recently, no it has been around for a long time, it just started seeing a resurgence as of late. if you don't like it, don't buy it, but right now the biggest gripe you seem to have is it looks kindof like other pistols which this gun is based on(shocker) and they have stupid stuff molded into the plastic, all issues having to deal with personal aesthetics.
as for glocks not needing to change and are good guns nonetheless? I am guessing you have not spent much trigger time with XDs and are speaking more from hearsay than not. unless you go to an XD specific forum, you don't find a whole lot of people that have issues with them. they are comparable to any modern service type pistol design and superior to many. glock obviously felt the need to update their pistols which they did with the gen2, gen 2.5, gen 3, and the gen 4 getting a major overhaul which led to their first recall. I have handled close to a dozen XD/xdm/xds in various calibers and sizes and I have yet to see a single failure or encounter a serious problem of any kind. I've also handled close to a dozen different glocks ranging from 2.5 to gen 4. I've seen glocks fail left and right with failures to eject, failures to feed, stovepipes, and serious accuracy issues(not to mention brass to the face). glock is not infallible and springfield is not the garbage that the koolaid crowd would wish you to think.
you have preferences, that's alright with me, but you are grasping at straws here trying to put down what is quite simply a revamp of a proven design and it's just getting old.
