Springfield XD Mod2.....Something New

I think it's better looking than the original XD, but they already did an XD remake with the XDm series, which is much more attractive. I think a few tweaks to the XDm and a few new XDm models to fill the gaps of discontinuing the regular XD would have been more appropriate.

I got so excited hoping the Mod. 2 was available in the service 4"

I'm a weirdo. I love the XD Service 4" and dislike literally every other model of the XD and XDM.

Bummer.

I like everything about it except that nasty "GRIP ZONE" banner. There does seem to be a lot of gimmicky stuff on it. But, then again a lot of stuff is gimmicky, it sells to a lot of people.

So they have the XD sub-compact, the XDM sub-compact, and now the XD mod2 sub-compact.

Same size, capacity, etc.

What the hell is the point? I hate companies like this. Every few years they come out with some stupid "improvement", and often times proprietary design that offers nothing over a previous model. SIG and Taurus are also known to abide by this retarded marketing strategy.

there is no XDM subcompact, only the XDM compact and the capacity is not the same, the XDM compacts have higher capacity than the XDs. I would much rather have a company release their newand improved designs and keep their old stuff on the line incase the new one is a flop with audiences. if it works they can go ahead and phase out the old ones to revamp tooling for a new model, if not, drop the new stuff and keep the old proven stuff.

I have no interest in a subcompact but I like this design, they took the number one reason most people go with the XDM over XD(the grips) and revamped them according to market demand. sounds like another win from springfield to me.

whatever, its all practically the same crap.

Every few years they come out with the same design repackaged with gimmicks and new looks. In the end it's the same pistol.

taurus, sig, springfield, etc, all do the same thing.

no it's not, upping the capacity, changing grip angles and textures, sights, triggers, shape of the pistols, barrel lengths, and slide lengths does not constitute the same thing. by that logic the S&W shield is the same thing as the M&P pro and M&P standard lines. every single glock is the exact same pistol and has been since 1982...

seriously guy, if you don't like springfield that's all well and good, we all have our likes and dislikes but that has got to be one of the most pathetic and arbitrary excuses, accompanied by the weakest defense I have ever heard.

because it's a fine design that doesn't really need to change and put "grip zone" or some other dumb non sense on it to sell.

The 3" XD, the 3" mod2, and the 3.8" xdm are all practically same the damn thing. I'm looking at all three 40sw models on springfields website. The xdm is the only one with the 16rd "X-Tension" BS and a slightly longer barrel. Oh my god, big deal.

If you think the "GripZone", "High-Hand" beavertail, and fiber optic front sight is such a big "improvement", then you're a freakin'.......well I gotta couple of infractions so I can't say. ;)

It`s still an XD, with a few minor changes.

I still own one XD, the only reason that I still own it is because the wife enjoys shooting it, I prefer a Glock over an XD.

actually, the XDM has replaceable backstraps where the XD and XD2 does not in addition to a completely different trigger design, it may not look it from the profile, but the triggers on the XDMs are nicer. the XDM also has a completely different profile which you would see if you weren't just looking at the side view profiles on springfield's website. XDMs have more angular, rounded off slides making them easier for concealed carry. why don't we talk about the 2 dozen different renditions of the beretta 92/m9/96 which all look completely identical, yet all have competely different uses according to marketing?

you are whining about stupid stuff being molded into the plastic? well Colt has been doing this since 1909

people act like this is a new fad which started recently, no it has been around for a long time, it just started seeing a resurgence as of late. if you don't like it, don't buy it, but right now the biggest gripe you seem to have is it looks kindof like other pistols which this gun is based on(shocker) and they have stupid stuff molded into the plastic, all issues having to deal with personal aesthetics.

as for glocks not needing to change and are good guns nonetheless? I am guessing you have not spent much trigger time with XDs and are speaking more from hearsay than not. unless you go to an XD specific forum, you don't find a whole lot of people that have issues with them. they are comparable to any modern service type pistol design and superior to many. glock obviously felt the need to update their pistols which they did with the gen2, gen 2.5, gen 3, and the gen 4 getting a major overhaul which led to their first recall. I have handled close to a dozen XD/xdm/xds in various calibers and sizes and I have yet to see a single failure or encounter a serious problem of any kind. I've also handled close to a dozen different glocks ranging from 2.5 to gen 4. I've seen glocks fail left and right with failures to eject, failures to feed, stovepipes, and serious accuracy issues(not to mention brass to the face). glock is not infallible and springfield is not the garbage that the koolaid crowd would wish you to think.

you have preferences, that's alright with me, but you are grasping at straws here trying to put down what is quite simply a revamp of a proven design and it's just getting old.

By design, it is intended to be used as a defensive tool. Who gives a __ what is written on it as long as it suits an individuals needs?

I like the looks of the new XD grip frame and look forward to fondling one.

Might make me jump back in and grab another XD9, really loved that gun.

As others have said, the "grip zone" is just stupid. Beyond that, not a lot going on.

I for one am thankful for the "GRIP ZONE" lettering.

Now I know what part of the gun I'm supposed to hold onto.

I'm still quite the fan of the original service and tactical models. That said, Springfield is guilty of offering LOTS of options and 'enhancements' to a very proven platform, nothing more. It's called marketing and they're no more guilty of it than anyone else. When they start offering pimped up versions such as 'rainbow' and 'diamond plate' finishes, then I'll be annoyed!

they should have.... I also do not like the....

Respectively speaking, fellow shooters, we cannot really give judgement until we hold it in our hand, aim at a safe spot, and dry-fire a shot or two.

Only then will we know if it is good enough for our individual needs and if we like it enough to own. The fit in the hand has to be experienced, by feel not by analysis from a photo. Then, if it feels just right and has a good trigger, we can learn to like it no matter what the shape.

After all, lots of people learned to accept the looks of the Glock :D

We just got one of these in at the LGS where I work and I like it. It's a nice tweak to an older design. Is it a completely new gun? Of course not. But I think all the minor changes they did are improvements, no matter how small a difference they might make overall. It feels good in the hand and I like the front sight. The trigger feels good too, but I didn't have a regular XD to compare it to, so I'm not sure if that changed at all.

Well, I like it except for the "GRIP ZONE" weirdness written on the grip. Like others have asked, what the heck were they thinking? At work were all laughing at the ridiculousness of that. Sure, it has a variously-textured grip that they decided to call "grip zones", but does that mean they need to scrawl "GRIP ZONE" across the side of the grip to tell you that? Seems like a marketing fail to me.

Well it's not enough for me to sell my trusty XD9 SC. I get why companies come out with newer versions of the same thing. If they don't, they quickly fall behind the competition. Especially in the polymer designs. That being said, the "Grip Zone" banner is going too far. It is absolutely hideous and it disappoints me that Springfield Armory would choose to put that on their product. It's marketing gone too far, just like everything else these days.

The thing about ergonomics is that the changes will be an improvement for some, and a step backwards for others. I think the idea isn't that the platform is now improved, but that it will service a wider variety of shooters. There's no way to tell if it's for you until you go out and grope a few.
