##Springfield Armory XD-9 vs. Sig Pro SP2009 - Which is the better gun?

Tried to post picture, but ImageStation has suddenly stopped allowing access from outside of their websight. Will reply again below with link to picture.

Take care. Marko

I own the .40s&w version of each. Both are excellent pistols, but both are very different animals. Size wise, they're very close (see picture of comaprison between SIG PRo and HS2000). Although the SIG feels chunkier and I find the XD's smaller grip to be more comfortable. Those with larger hands might prefer one of the SIG's interchangable grips.

The XD's trigger is a single action version, but is reminiscent of the one found on Glocks due to the trigger safety. The SIG employs traditional DA/SA, but can easily be converted to DAO. I really like the consistent trigger pull of my XD. On the other hand, my SIG Pro has the smoothest trigger of any of my SIGs by far.

The XD has no frame-mounted or slide-mounted safety, instead relying on a 1911-type grip safety. The SIG uses a frame-mounted decocker.

I find both pistols to be very accurate. A toss-up. Recoil seems soft to me with both pistols too. And reliability has been flawless across the board.

As for accessories, both have similar accessory rails and the XD accepts SIG sights -- so that's a wash. Neither pistol has a ton of holsters made for it yet, but there are enough made for each to have a decent choice nonetheless. The non-9mm SIG currently has drop in barrels for caliber conversions. The XD's are said to be coming, but are not on the market yet.

Cost-wise, the SIG is slightly more expensive, but still quite affordable -- especially for a SIG.

The bottom line though, is to try out both pistols and see which one you like best. Quality and reliability aren't an issue, so the choice should only come down to personal preference.

Take care. Marko

I'd edge toward the XD for its' Browning High Power/CZ-75-esque grip shape.

They're both hella nice guns, but the ability to score Beretta high caps, the consistant trigger pull from first shot to last, and the generally slimmer proportions give the XD/HS2k the edge, in my book.

Which is better??? Sig v. Glock yet again--where are the guys with the flowered shirts. (I like the name when this Springfield thing was first imported on a 6--"the Crock" [Croatian Glock]).

Which do you like? The gun doesn't matter; you do, brasshopper.
What is the sound of one 9mm firing?

I own the HS2000 (early XD-9), and a SigPro SP2340 in .357 Sig. From my experience, the XD-9 is by far the better pistol. The SigPro has a large, clunky grip, and just does not point well for me. It is also a pain in the butt to reassemble, and I have accuracy issues with mine.

I currently own close to 20 handguns, and the HS2000 (XD-9) is very near the top of my list. I know that many of the Glocksters don't like it, but after owning and shooting one for close to a year, it's earned my respect. It is also the first gun I now reach for when something goes bump in the night.

Another plus is the availability of inexpensive, full capacity (15 & 17 round) aftermarket mags, and Springfield's announcement that they are in the process of importing 15 round preban FACTORY mags.

Is there an aftermarket drop in barrel in 9mm for the 40 cal. XD? I would like to have both calibers.

Which of the 2 guns is more accurate?

Which of the 2 guns has less recoil?

Mark, I will translate:

SIG v. Glock--just an example of the endless GSC pondering. The weapon does not matter, it is only a tools. While everyone likes a good gun, the weapon that you like is best because you will be using it.

guys with flowered shirts--the gun rag writers who endlessly debate SIG v. Glock, 9mm v. .45acp, etc., Mini-14 vs. AR, ad naseum, and then photograph themselves being unsafe with firearms while wearing loud shirts.

the 6--when this Croat dealie was first imported (Treasury forms for imports are referred to as "Form 6s") some wag looked at it during the point process and called it the "Crock" (Croatian Glock), infra the "Clock", the Colt 2000 (yikes)

the gun doesn't matter, you do--pick whichever pistol you like, buy 4 of them and go to skul.

brasshopper--student of firearms, comes from TV series "Kung Fu", see also MasterChingChingKaPow, a firearms instructor.

what is the sound of one .45 (9mm, .38) firing--what is the sound of one hand clapping, silly phil question raised during gun skul session (aka--a joke).

I have been able to shoot them both and I would go with the sig. Just hold the Springfield Armory EX and you will see why I say that.

Which of the 2 guns has less recoil?

Springfield Armory
accurate = Good but you will want to get new sights for it.
recoil = none (it is a 9mm)

Sig
accurate = great! (a sig is one of the best out of the box guns you will shoot)
recoil = same as the SA.

bfj2: As I mentioned earlier, I own both pistols. I'm curious what it is about holding the Springfield that would indicate to users that they should choose the SIG.

Thanks and take care. Marko

Without a doubt, the SA XD.

Haven't even seen a Sig Pro polymer gun in three years of weekly shooting a indoor and outdoor ranges in three counties. what does that tell you?

The idea about modifiable grips on the Sig Pro is cool but not the price tag.

I have not seen any XDs for sale at the gun stores in my area. What is the build quality on the XD? The build quality of the Sig Pro is solid.

Which gun will last longer?

Anyone prefer a Sig Pro over the XD? If so, why?

It tells me that you haven't seen a SIGPro. Let's not jump to universal conclusions from small statistical samples. ;)

They're not super common, but that doesn't mean too much; I have seen as many SIGPros at ranges and in matches as I have P99's and HS2k/XD's, and they're more common than P7's or Steyrs. My roomie owned one for a while.

Question

you can use 15rnd hi cap mags in the XD?
If so who's and where do i get them..Im about to buy an XD next week..tho it will be 2 more weeks before i can take possesion...thanks to Maryland and its great leaders

I would get the SigPro! It is fairly new and unpopular, but I had a chance to try one out and WOW! I am a Sig classic loyalist and never cared for the SPros till i tried it and I read a couple of excellent reviews on it. Look for the Sigpro2009 thread on the General handguns forum and look for my posted sites on the two reviews on it.
