I was in my local gun emporium today and he has a new SS Springfield .45 in the case. This gun is beautiful and loaded with all the options. What are your thoughts on these?
The asking price is $649. are they worth it?
Since as of Saturday I will become College Poor I'm gonna have to take a good long hard look at this. I even dropped the hint to the wife "It would make a nice birthday present"
Yeah Right, Slim chance :D
Anyway what are your thoughts? :)

Bought one earlier this year - beautiful gun! There is a lot of discussion on .45's - Kimber seems to be favored, but I don't think you can go wrong with the Springfield. The price seems fair - I paid a little more for mine, but the gun prices locally seem to be higher than many quoted on TFL. Hope you get it!

That price is a high for the model - but its not out of the ballpark.
If money is an issue - shop around a little more. I have been recomending that pistol for like 6 minths now. The thing rocks and Me and the fellows I know who have got them all agree on that. I payed about 100 less for mine but I know others who have payed about that much - so dont feel bad if you just HAVE to buy it.

Think about this:
Its easier to ask forgiveness that to get permission! :D

George I'm getting the itch :D Once I see something I like I gotta have it  And I hear this voice calling out "Buy Me Buy Me Oh no it won't stop
Seriously, it looks well made and a super shooter. Oh those voices just won't leave me alone, Is there any relief for this  AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :D

loknload - You want it. You KNOW you want it!

Don't try to fight the inevitable. Submit. It is your destiny.

As for price - mine was $700.00. That included the ported barrel and adjustable rear sight. Mine was purchased in CA and everything is more expensive here.

As you drift off to sleep tonight, think about how it felt in your hand... the high quality forged stainless steel, beautiful machining and excellent fit and finish.

Does this help? :D

Your sooooo right Cliff I do want it, Butttt
the wife says no more guns :( If I were to come home with that even Viagra wouldn't help :o It would be gone  But then again, Maybe we can do the easy term lay away program and then someday it would just find its way into the safe  Gee dear it must have followed me home.
The voices just won't go away  I'm gonna have to go fondle one of my other prized possesions maybe that will ease the pain.
Yes Cliff, I would really like that. Ported barrel, adjustable sites, checkered cocobolo wood grips OHhhhhh It just don't stop, I'll never sleep tonight.
Sensop can you recommend some meds :D

I love mine, it shoots a lot better than I am capable of.

It has a few sharp edges, I don't really notice them while carrying or shooting. Though I did have to kind of round (w/ file) the corners on the mainspring housing because it was wearing holes in my shirts while carrying. Including my favorite green TFL shirt. :(

I have never had a malfunction with ball ammo. The only malfunctions I've ever had where with an older batch of 230gr. Hydro-shok (with the squarer profile). It eats everything else that I put in it.

My friends who have tried it find that they shoot better with it than they do with their own guns.

That price seems reasonable, I paid about $75 less if I remember right, but my local dealer usually cuts me a good deal because I bring him lots of business.

And the grips are pretty. :)

Greetings,

In Reno, I paid $689 in April for the SA 1911-A1 Stainless. In May, I paid $649 for a Kimber Custom Stainless.

The SA has a better trigger, but I shoot the Kimber... It's just toooo sweet and doesn't have the sharp edges of the SA. Trigger is just a little creepy and will probably clean up just fine with a little stoning...

You will hear that you will pay more for a Kimber, but that wasn't my experience...

You may wanna shop this around...
YMMV!
Happy Hunting!!!

I must be lucky... the wife figured out just this week that I have more than two pistols (not that I was hiding that fact, but she's not particularly gun-aware, not particularly interested, and I guess one pistol looks pretty much like any other... eh? :))

For that matter, I guess one rifle looks pretty much like any other rifle. Or shotgun. Or paintball marker.

"Oh... that? I've had it for years, honey." :)

The STG-58, Mossberg 590, and SiG P245 have all snuck in under the radar, and the HK Tactical is next.

And if she ever asks, I'm just holding it for my brother.

Heh, heh. :)

your life and your Rights, should you choose to threaten mine, are worth exactly $1.79 --

Which shop is the SA located at? If I recall, you're from the Reading area. Prices tend to be a tad higher around that area.

Son, I sent you an email

Loknload, I paid $650 for my SA, and it's been worth every penny. Personally, I prefer the substantial feel of the Springfields over the Kimbers, even with the sharp edges.

You guys are making it hard for me not to do this :D I'll probably be stopping back out there tommorrow :D

Since I have been busy getting the daughter off to College, I didn't get a chance to get back out to the gun shop. So I didn't get the chance to relook this Springfield. I was looking at them at Guns America though and I believe the one I'm looking at, at the shop is the V16 model.Saw one that looks just like it at Guns America. I probably won't be able to look again until Monday and I hope it will still be there. Just thought I would pass this along. ;)

The gun shop I'm getting a part time job at asked me to start tomorrow instead of Wednesday. I'll get a price with my discount for ya.

loknload - V-16? That's the long slide. It also fires the .45 Super.

I know hearing this breaks your heart. :)

Your daughter is now a College student, eh? Congrats! You're almost home free. (Voice of experience...) :D
