Springfield Armory 1911 but which one...

Well, at least I'm on the right track with the Springfield then!! Last was a Kimber custom II which I didn't mind, but this sounds good....

Thanks mate - definitely looks like you picked a winner also. Looks like the one I'm eyeballing is actually a RO, so should be a ripper!

If it weren't for the Cavalry Board demanding a return to the .45 we might have had a .38 Auto sidearm. But there were the Juramentados and the institutional memory of the Indian Wars and there were the livestock "tests."

We might have had a .41 Auto, too.

Can you imagine the outcry nowadays if they used cattle to test ammo?

Well, any group of serious ballistic scientists - meaning the ones gifted with really BIG yarbells - would be doing such tests today using Orangoutangs, not cattle. ... Orangoutangs, as a species, being closer to humans in their physiological reaction after ingesting projectiles than cattle.

And, of course, any such testing, if it were to occur today, would be done off-shore, in some remote locale where the indigenous folks and their leaders can be manipulated into cooperation and kept hushed with an appropriate level of, ah, monetary "donations" to the tribal treasury. ;)

My final choice will be the Springfield Armory RO Elite Operator 5" in 9mm,

Well good for you. Make sure you return with a range report once you get it.

My preference would be .45 ACP with adjustable sights but that's just me...and that's why Springfield makes more than one 'flavor'.
