I was at a baseball game with my daughter. The Sheriff was there to throw out one of the first pitches. He later walked by our seats and I immediately started cheezin :D. His duty pistol was a Mod. 36 Chiefs Special with a Tyler T Grip! I loved seeing the old wheel gun on his hip. Just when I thought they were only back ups nowdays!!

I haven't seen an officer carrying one here in quite a while either. I assume that all of the local cops are required to carry Glocks because thats what they all have.

"I thought they were only back ups nowadays" . . . . .

You might be surprised just how many carry a Model 36 . . . . it's my primary CCW . . . . small, compact yet able to do what it needs to . . . :)

A three inch, square butt Model 36 went with me when I was a deputy; that was before the auto pistol "revolution", but somehow, I never felt undergunned or helpless.

In this day and age of ours, I simply cannot think of a single benefit there would be to carrying a revolver vs. a semi-auto.

It's an "affectation". :p

Really? I carry a Model 642 as my CCW, but I'm not the Sheriff either!

Maybe it's an image thing, but being the SHERIFF there is no reason anyone would or should bat an eyelash if they saw him OCing a modern tac pistol. If I were him, I'd OC the most effective handgun I could, which would certainly NOT be a Model 36 revolver. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I have plenty of revolvers, and I do carry one (S&W 642 or 60) from time to time.

But, having retired from almost 30 yrs. of LE, I'm very grateful that I was never once required to carry a revolver as my duty weapon.

The last law enforcement officer I saw with a wheelgun was back in the early to mid 80's and he was shooting in competition with it. I don't know if he carried it on duty. He later became the asst. Chief of Police and the President of the NRA, Kayne Robinson.

Constable

There is a constable in a neighboring town that carries various revolvers for duty. He also went to high school with Jesus so it makes sense I suppose. I hear he qualifys well with it so good for him.

I think the more intellectual of you young guys will eventually learn to appreciate revolvers as well as automatics.
Revolvers can serve you well. Some of the makers are even trying to make them look like "Transformers" so the less intellectual of you will take a look, too.

Ronnie Lott is still Sheriff? He's been policing for quite a while. Many cops were carrying Revolvers back then. He's probably going with what he knows best.

In this day and age of ours, I simply cannot think of a single benefit there would be to carrying a revolver vs. a semi-auto.

Ability to fire multiple times at contact distance, immunity to grip-induced malfunction, tolerant of the widest variety of bullet shapes, weights, and construction, and least sensitive to the power of the ammunition to name a few.
