Sphinx SDP Range Report

Over all quality of the SDP is better than the P series Sigs but, the Sigs have better trigger characteristics.

In your subjective opinion, which you are entitled to. ;) I have found that Sig triggers vary from the factory by 1.5 -2 lbs from listed weight. This is in new production and old production. I do not disagree that the 12lb trigger on the SDP is on the heavy side but my factory Sub-compact is lower.

WVsig wote:

Some subjective and some not. Take up distance, reset distance, and pull weights can all be objectively measured which has been done on several units of each brand that are being compared here. Not all of the SDP's I've shot or dry fired has the stage at the half cock position but, most had it at some level . Sigs don't have this trait at least on any of the multiple dozens I've had in my hand.

None of this is saying that the Sphinx SDP has a bad trigger in any way, just not Sig good. No different in saying that my HK P-30's (V3) trigger is not Sphinx good. Although I put the Sig and SDP triggers much closer together performance wise than the P-30's and SDP's.

Gee guys. Didn't mean to get folks' dander up.

Most of my SIG's are SA. Half are German made; half are USA made. Only being a shooter, I miss all the little things you talk about. I haven't measured any of my guns' trigger pull, just go by feel. I've cranked the adjustment on my X-Series as soft as possible without an accidental discharge. I just pull the trigger until I feel resistance, then I increase pressure until it fires; then release it and repeat.

The ones with the lightest trigger pull are the X-5, X-6 and the CZ75 Tactical Sport. Most of the rest have triggers that my arthritic fingers manage without a problem. Probably the best trigger in all my guns is the one in my Ruger 10-22; it's a factory trigger group with a Brimstone Tier 3 make over. I know it's a rifle, but that trigger is marvelous. Doesn't seem to have any travel, very light pull, Brimstone said 2 1/2 pounds, and I can't feel any travel before reset. I must admit I'm ham handed, but I love that little trigger group.

I really like the SDP and plan to run it against a DW Guardian 9mm and a SIG p239 9mm next week. I feel those guns are similair, but the SDP is the tightest of any guns I own, or I have fired.

I'm surprised by everyone's trigger weights on the Compact. My SA pull feels lighter than my PPQ. Maybe there's a lot of variance with production models right now. I saw a YouTube review where someone had a <4 lb SA so they exist.

I think some people think it is lighter than it is because it is very smooth. When you put it on a scale it is what it is. Also some people list the lightest reading they get out of the scale I personally prefer to list the avg of 5 because there is a variance.

I also believe that trigger weights vary about 10% from listed numbers by manufacturers. Each gun as it sets up will be slightly different. This is why you will get light hammer strikes with a 17lbs spring in some SDPs and not others.

Well spoken WVsig. I learned that procedure in the USAF(more than half a life time ago); any device that has a tolerance should have the measurements for the tolerance taken at least five times. m/b one wouldn't average readings, it depends on the device; sometimes one may go with a high reading, or m/b a low reading. That's includes torqueing of fasteners.:D
