Special qualifications?

Well I not only am going to help with the computer stuff but now I signed up for room mom LOL!! This way I can get to know the teacher and the kids, and in time, if the time is right, I can bring some of the firearm safety stuff up. But like you all said, I'm going to get to know some of these people before mentioning it, that is if my kid doesn't mention it first :D.

If I could talk my way into this, I would get some stuff from the NRA (videos, phamplets ,etc) and use that. I would defintely explain that I am not certified in no way but I am a Mom and concerned about kids and firearm safety just as much as the next Mom. They have fire safety, stranger safety, and even drug safety....why not firearm safety? That irks me so much. But I am going to keep that low key for now and just see how it goes. I seriously think that would be a great thing to have children learn, and heck, even teach some of the Moms a few things as well. (By the end of the year MissD has converted 20 Moms ;))yeah right.

When and if the time comes, I will make sure to do my homework well.

MissD, I think you're doing the right thing. Get involved, get to know people, teach your own child what she needs to know ... and lie low about gun safety at school, at least until the people there know you.

Perhaps later in the year you'll have a chance to get some basic gun safety taught, but right off the bat you could do far more harm than good (at least to yourself and your child).
