Spare Mag Carry

Hey TFL,

For those of you that carry a spare mag, what is your preferred method? I recently began carrying iwb and really want to keep a spare mag with me since my gun is single stack. I've seen a lot of people talking about the neomag magnetic pocket clip. Has anyone used one/do they actually work? Seems like a nice quick and easy option, but I'd really like to hear what you all have to say about it. If not neomag, what options do you like/recommend?

Thanks in advance!

I carry Aiwb. My spare mag is in a blade-tech owb mag holder on my left side. If the mag pouch prints a little, everybody assumes its a cell phone. So i dont worry about it.

Another option is a simple Toolman holster. It in no way looks like a mag holder.

Personally, I use the same setup I use for IDPA, but just with one mag holder (and tightened a good bit more).

Right now I typically use a Bravo Concealment mag pouch. It works out pretty well. For a year or more I used a MagHolder horizontal pouch. I really liked it and it's very comfortable imo. The only issue I had was it does print a bit with longer mags, though it looks more like a cell phone holder under a shirt than anything else.

I normally carry my spare mag in a simple owb carrier on my weak side. For most guns it carries fine under anything my gun conceals under IWB.

Barring that I have used Snagmag pocket carriers to good effect. Kinda pricey for what you get but mine has held up great.

This is a great way to hide in plain sight! Looks like a multitool or something similar.

I use a fabric mag holder from Snake Eater Tactical. Cheap and simple for carry, but not good for training because it collapses.

Vedder makes a really good one too. Kydex with an adjustable cant.

I didn't like the NeoMag at all. The magazine was still visible and it took up pocket real estate.

I really like the Kytex mag holder. I have one for my Walther PPS and use it IWB. Very reasonably priced too.

Most of the time, I carry two spare mags for my LC9 in an old Uncle Mike's pocket holster....it's the one made for a .38Spl snub. Holds the mags in place well enough.

In a kramer horsehide leather mag pouch...either a single or a double...( 1911, 10 rd, 9mm ETM mag, Wilson )....on the weak side...usually I carry the single.

My uncle uses an old folding knife belt pouch with a snap cover flap. Still has the Buck Knives logo on it. He once told me that was the key to CC, not advertising your armed, and no one thinks twice about a guy with a knife on his belt.

I use Snagmags. It's pricy for what it is, but the best method I've found of keeping a double stack mag concealed, but rapidly accessible. I use them regularly at the range and they work well.

The Neomag looks similar, but I could see that coming out of your pocket with the mag. The Snagmag has a spur that 'snags' the pocket and keeps the magholder there while you pull the mag back and out.

I used to use knife pouches, but they are slow to access and don't conceal a full capacity double stack mag very well (which is much fatter than a knife).

Excellent. That's how I used my Toolman.

I use a Safariland 123 horizontal mag pouch from Amazon for about $18. I have one for my Glock 17 and one for my Glock 30. Very comfortable and conceals well. The entire mag is covered so a person will not know what it is

For a double-stack mag I just keep it loose in my pocket. I have a Remora pocket mag holder for my single stack spare mag. It came for free when I ordered a holster, and it is worth approximately the purchase price. I like the Remora holster, but the pocket mag holder doesn't stay oriented well at all. Not sure why, since it is the same material and seems to be adequately sized.

I carry an IWB single mag pouch. I carry appendix at about 12:30-1:00 and the mag is to the left of that at about 11:30.

You could go with one of the holsters made specifically for this style, such as the T.Rex Arms Sidecar holster.
