SP101: bobbed hammer or not???

Worse than the possibility of an accidental discharge from a cocked revolver is the reality of having to decock it during or immediately after what will probably be a fairly stressful situation.

On the other hand, I like the lug and the added weight to the barrel... it makes firing the pistol a lot more comfortable and makes for quicker follow up shots... heavier to carry though... unfortunately, for everything we get, we must give something up! Dang! ;)

After handling the 2" and 3" versions in the store the other day, I decided I definitely preferred the 3"... mostly because the extra length will help moderate the stout .357 mag. recoil, make follow up shots quicker, and concealing a 3/4" longer barrel is no problem at all.

This gun would fill a roll between my full size pistols and my pocket pistols... something nice and in-between. For pocket carry I prefer my Kahr PM-9 and S&W 642 internal hammer.

I have an old S&W M36 nickle that I used to carry as a backup in a leg holster when I was police'n. I had the hammer bobbed and an action job done. It served me well until I retired and then it went to my wife as a carry gun. It pulls as well from a purse, pocket or what ever. No snag, no drag, just slips out real easy. Great for a bathrobe pocket if one has to answer the door after dark.

When I first bought my 2" SP-101, I had it rendered DAO. I also had the hammer spur reduced, so a thumb strap would hold it in place, but leave some purchase for a cylinder check. Alas, it was stolen... :(
