Sp 101 .357

Of course, noone has a money tree, but I think that too often people really get hung up on price and woulda, coulda, shoulda when it comes to guns, cars, motorcycles, etc.
If it's what you want and it's easily accessible, then buy it. You'll more than likely waste more than 30 bucks on cokes or something over the next few weeks.
Sounds like the "pimp" package isn't what you want though. Remember that value is relative.

Thats an ok price. I bought a python that had a gold hammer and trigger. I kind of like it. Somehow I don't think it would look as good with a stainless gun.

I agree with that! I probably pay more than I should for my guns, but I always get what I want, when I want it... :D

Dean C, I don't think you should buy that gun! Reason, for the difference of $30.00, your not hot enough after it... When your eye finds the right gun for you, $30.00 won't matter... ;)

Bullrock,
I believe you're on to something. It just isn't what I'm wanting. I checked back last Wednesday and there was still no change in price. Couldn't even haggle. It's still sitting there and probably will for ever as far as I'm concerned. The right deal will come around sooner or later.
Thanks all for the input.

It's home now

They finally dropped the price to $325. That put me at the "coin toss". I called heads and sure enough it was heads. The SP101 is the "special edition" kck posted a link for. The only difference was that it does not have the grip inserts shown in the link. I'll be trying to find some so if anyone has a lead for me, please post.

Now in the comfort of my own home, I've thoroughly examined it. I do not believe it has ever been fired since it left the factory. Everything came with it. For all practical purposes, I bough a NIB SP101 KSP321XT Limited Edtition for $325.

I'm happy!

Congrats! I HATE spending money. I am way too cheap. But, I have learned that if you find something that you really want...get it. Flip flopping over $25, $40, $75...is not worth it. You will spend that on pizza and beer of the course of a year. I don't and will not over pay for something, but do not hesitate to get it if it is what I want. Enjoy your purchase!

Mr. Tettnanger

Hey Dean, I think $ 325 is an excellent price for what is essentially a NIB SP-101. I have three of them, and have always enjoyed them as a carry piece and as shooters. In fact, up until this year, when I got a few Taurus revolvers, the SP-101 was my favorite revolver carry piece in .357, while my Model 60 was my favorite in .38. Where did you find this fine bargain? Sam's?

And to the poster above, the additional weight of the SP-101 makes them very controllable with .357. My preferred carry load in .357 is 125 grain JHP, usually Remington or Federal. I can crank off five rounds rapid fire and still keep a pretty tight group. I am not yet at the stage where I can do this with my Taurus titanium 651! The eight ounce difference in weight between the Ruger and the Taurus makes quite a difference in controllability, but of course the Taurus is much easier to pocket carry. The Ruger always rode with me in a IWB holster, as it was too big and heavy for pocket carry, unless it was an outside pocket of a winter coat.

Mr. Tettnanger,
Oh, $25.00 to me is something. I'm tighter than a drum.
Welcome aboard too.

Mill Creek,
I stopped by Sam's yesterday thinking I might find you and Bear than I realized it was only 1:30 (I took the day off). I found it at DJ's. Had my eye on it for more than a month. At first I wanted to hold out for a 3 1/16 but that $25 made the difference.

shep854,
Coin tosses? Oh, well, uh, .........would you believe 1 out of 5? :p

Snort. This reminds me of my days in the lab back when I was in chemistry school. Our motto was: when all else fails, manipulate the data! I have actually seen this on a sweatshirt.

Diamondback,
Beautiful grip inserts. I want to put something on other than the black ones that somehow came with the gun. I'm going to research the "limited edition" inserts to make it original. But, I'm not sure where to start. If that search fails, I'm heading to some wood inserts. Great site.
Thank you,
dean

L.M. Burney and several other distributors ordered this special edition about 4-5 years ago. they really look pretty good in real life. Don't let anybody talk you into not liking it.

Took awhile for the weather to clear up on a week-end to shoot. (I'm a boonie shooter not an indoor range shooter)
WOW! :)
I think I just shot one of my favorites! Shooting that SP was probably the most fun I've had in a long time. I'm not a hand gun shooter (till now, love shooting my .270 Ruger and Marlin 45/70G) and I believe I can really get into this. I started at a berm that I didn't even check the distance just to feel it out. The term group didn't even come into question. I just wanted to feel it. Very comfortable! (.357 JSP 125 Gr.) To steal a phrase from a friend of mine, "I commeced to turned a lot of money into a lot of smoke and noise". By the end of the afternoon, I was shooting 5" groups at 10 yards. Not bad for a beginner with a revolver. I'm JAZZED! :)

3 sp's I've owned

the first one was hammerless 2 1/4, really a nice piece, I am now kicking myself for letting it go. 2nd one is sp for 125 grain only, paid $369 used, in the bx w/papers. the third one is 3", shoots very low, but have never held a piece that fit and balanced better than the sp's.
I am a smith and wesson revolver person, but I don't dare shoot ruger loads in a smith; I can't think of any snub nose I would trade the third one for, but the 125 grain is about to be melted down for a paper weight; I think before I throw in the towel, I'll see what Ruger has to say about their gun. oh by the way. if your thinking of carrying your sp concealed, with the factory rubber grips, you can forget it. the grips are like magnets, and pull the shirt, etc. up.
thus you are now un-concealed. I learned that the hard way in down town Seattle; while wandering thru the tourist crowd, an under cover cop, intentionally grabbed the butt of the revolver; nothing was said, and we both went on our way, but the message was clear......
