Sp 101 .357

Just looked at a Ruger SP101 .357 3" Stainless. Very, Very little use and checked out like NIB. Box, books and everything included. The only thing that has me guessing is the gold hammer, trigger and cylinder release. $350.00. I think it's about $25 to $35 too high except for the gold. I'm puzzled, what do you people think? I might need to jump quickly.
thanks for the help,

I just bought one NIB for $370.00+++. Check the trigger action. It's been said, no two SP101's perform alike. I have shot one with a heavy DA, and a light SA. Mine came with a Heavy SA, and a nice DA.

Also, I had to take it to a gunsmith. Something was rubbing against the mainspring. :(

I bought mine because I like the design and balance. And, I expect it will shoot great tomorrow. :D From your description it sounds like good value. Could be a little less, but you may not get much wiggle room. Good selling wheelie.

Thanks Bullrock,
The trigger feel did not catch my attention so I must say it is probably ok. I'm not experienced enough with hand guns to be picky. I'm more of a rifle shooter and adjust with each rifle's quirks. If I jump on it, I'll get an education for certain.
What about the gold? That's the part that separates it from other SP101's I've looked at.

It could very well be customized. I looked on the Ruger website, and in the genitron.com data base, and did not see anything pertaining to gold accessories. The dealer may be able to put you in touch with the former owner who should know.

budsgunshop.com has the SP101 listed for $335.79 NIB. Able Ammo lists for $379.84 NIB The MRSP is $505.00. If you're not comfortable with the one your looking at it does appear as though you can find a NIB for just about the same price... :)

Good luck

it sounds like a custom job, I have never heard of ruger offering a "gold package" i might be wrong.....

I paid $300 for one like new...no box...no gold, but I did get an IWB holster and four speed loaders. Real nice gun!

:D :D

Mine SP101 is a stainless 2 1/4" barrel and it did not come with a gold hammer, trigger or cylinder release and I bought it new.

It does sound like someone did some customizing on it but as long it reacts/shoots okay it doesn't really matter, right?

Thanks for the link! It's unique looking...I didn't know they had a special edition for that model....

If I were Dean, I'd buy it! ;)

Thanks for all the help. I tossed a low ball to them now I have to see what they say. All in all, I'm leaning heavy toward makeing it part of my collection.

Ya know, the gold didn't turn me on either. GP-100 grips. I have a black frame, with pearl grips, and gold accessories. :D I'll leave the mfg. nameless for now...

I bought one at Cabelas used, never fired , customer bought and never used and traded it back, with gun lock and all documentation . $260.00 plus tax.

A .357 in that light of gun as to be something else for recoil thats probably why so many around.Just a few shot  and they get rid of it, now .38+p would be a nice load :)

My SP101 has a 3 & 1/16 Brl. :) The recoil with the factory grips is a little heavy using .357. .38Spl. +p is very smooth. I just ordered Houge grips for it. After 100 rounds, and a trip to the GS, the SA is still very tight. :(

Just got back from a gunshow in dayton,Ohio. A dealer there had a new special edition with the gold trim. Only problem was he wanted $465.00 plus tax. No thanks.
Made yours sound like a sweet deal.

I'm still flip-floppin' over it. And yea, it's the money. I just can't see spending the extra $30 for something that isn't exactly what I want. I can be bought though. If they drop their price below $300, that gun would be out of there so fast it would leave a vacuum. At $350, they will have to dust it off every now and then. At $325, it would come down to a coin toss.
Thanks every one for the comments, keep them up.
