SOON... real SOON

Gunsmiths at Gander Mountain in Kenosha Wis did the work. Figure the stock (with checkering) was $150 and this work was $190 so that's $340 there. I could have traded the rifle in on a new one!!

But it does look nice and if it shoots now like it used to I'm a happy camper.

(Wife is doing good thanks). :)

Took the Ruger and my new Hi-Point 45 pistol to the range along with my buddy Bob and his new Savage Axis. I had bore sighted the Axis for him and we started off on that. It was shooting just low of the bull and tweaked the sights and dead on. Now we found the ring to base screws had loosed up so had to tighten them and go through it again. Don't ever trust a "package" rifle from Dick's Sporting Goods to have the scope mounted right. I thought Bob checked it but he's a new rifle shooting (and probably hunter) so he learned a lesson. This took up alot of range time before I got my Ruger out with my new pillar bedding, glass bedding and free floating barrel work done by the Gander Mountain gunsmiths. The gun was sighted in and so should not have been far off. It was not even on paper! I checked the adjusting knobs and someone at Gander had dinked with the settings. How do I know? I had them set on zero. I set them back on zero and bingo, right in the bull with three shots. It needs some more fine tuning and shooting more groups but those three shots were inside an inch. This is a Ruger with a free floated barrel! It's going to work! Wanted to shoot my new Hi-Point so put the rifles in the car and set up on the 25 yard pistol range. Bob and I shot 50 rounds through it and it clicked them off like a fine watch with no jams. And with pretty decent accuracy too. I had a fun day at the range! Will report on the Ruger when I get some time to spend all day with it. Right now I'm a happy camper!! :D

Nice!! 3 in the bull is always a good feeling. Glad the Hi-Point worked out, too. Frankly, I am a bit jealous... need to get my new rifle paid off so I can join in the fun, too!:D

Ruger 77 MkII all-weather in .300 Win Mag. The guy with me today (Bob) would NOT shoot my rifle after he saw me shoot it and my cap flew off LOL!! :D

I'm glad it worked out for you Warbird, I have been following this story since you first decided to put the new stock on. Congrats on the Hi Point too. Regards to your wife and hope she is still doing good.

You have been chomping at the bit for a month and a half to get this thing back. You finally get it and shoot just three rounds? Is it better than before? Is it better than the original stock? Was it worth the time and money for your results?
Not being antagonistic in the least here. I have several m77 mkii rifles and I'm quite interested in your results.

Glad to hear you are happy with the results. New rifle and new stand.

Keep us informed on the progress of your wife with her new hip.

No, no. The LAST three rounds were good. I fired three before it and found they weren't on the paper. And sighting in the friend's rifle took much longer then expected due to the mounts loosening up. And since my X-mas present from the wife (Barska spotting scope) is absolutely blurrily useless (even at 100 yards) we have to shoot a few, wait until the "pause" to check our targets etc. Takes forever if you don't have a good spotting scope (which is next on my agenda).

1. It's NOT better then with the paddle stock but "appears" to be as good and now it's free floated as before it had a pressure point with the paddle stock.

2. Not sure if it was worth all the time and money yet. As I stated, I could have just taken it and traded it in for a new Tikka T3 Hunter (love them) but the stock does look fantastic on the stainless Ruger so visually it is much nicer then it was and much nicer looking then a Tikka.

And at the range I got to thinking I want to donate a day to myself and this rifle to REALLY know what it does. Trying to do too many things was a mistake.
