Had a nice little Ruger single-six that was given to me by an uncle when I was 14. Great dependable little pistol with many memories attached. Sold it to buy a bicycle! Bicycle is long gone, but the regrets remain. What's your story?

It wasn't a handgun, it was a rifle. A model 70 Winchester in .257 Roberts in pristine condition. The serial number was 2345. It was my mother's rifle, given to her by my grandparents as her graduation present from business school. What the heck was (is) wrong with me?

This will make you sick (it still does me): Several years ago I bought a NIB Sig P228. Had to sell it when I realized I needed the money to pay bills and buy food and such. Never even got to shoot it. Took a substantial loss.

With all the b.s. bans, I don't think I'd EVER sell a gun.

Imagine you bought a semiautomatic pistol ~10 years ago (e.g. Glock/HK), and a few spare "hi-cap" mags. Guess what, your mags are worth more than the GUN cost.

Imagine if they pass a "presidential decree" that postban guns made after a certain date cannot use preban mags (quite possible, they dictate US parts counts on AKs which includes the mag, i.e. they can pass stuff this silly). Your "pre-post-pre" gun will be worth more.

Smart guns are here to stay (yes we know they suck). Imagine what a pre-smartgun handgun will be worth when the only new alternatives will have no self-defense reliability.

And one day, when they scoop up all the yellow forms I've ever filled out, by not selling I can give them every last gun, and save at LEAST a set of door hinges, and perhaps my own life.

Battler.

No doubt about it! I wish to God I had never sold that tricked out Colt Series 70 Lightweight Commander and Colt Series 70 Government Model in MD to buy my fiancee's engagement ring that she just returned. They had heavy duty recoil springs, throated barrels, polished feed ramps, beveled mag wells, Millett sights, 3.5 lb trigger jobs with extended slide stops and ambi thumb safeties. Blue frames and slides. I'd buy 'em back in an instant.

There are four types of men in this world. Know how to deal with each of them and you will prosper.
He who knows not and knows not he knows not is a fool, shun him.
He who knows and knows not he knows is asleep, awaken him.
He who knows not and knows he knows not is a child, teach him.
He who knows and knows he knows is a wise man, learn from him

Ankeny!!
Geez, I hope your mother never found out. I don't think I could even dream up one that bad. It's early in the life of this thread but I'd declare you the winner right now. No offense intended here at all but, what were you thinking? :(

I have two sells of three guns.

First was my Colt AR-15 H-Bar - preban that was sold to pay for my sons birth. Sold at the good time when prices really high and it paid for the birth. I love my son and would not trade him for all the AR-15s in the world but I do wish I had it back.

Next was a matching pair of Colt Diamand Backs one in .38 and one in .22 both were gorgeous with the original box and all the papers. The .38 was never fired and the .22 had only 12 rounds through it.. I just had to shot that gun.

I sold them to pay the doctor bills for my daugther's birth. Again I love my little girl with all my heart but I would like to have those Diamondbacks back.

I just hope my wife and I are through haveing children.. smile..

Parents and grandparents were all deceased. I was at a low point in my life and thought I needed the money. Nothing you can say or do could make me feel any worse...I am a sorry piece of crap, I'll admit it.

It still hurts to much to talk about it. :( :( And there were several!
SOB! SOB!! SOB!!!
Battler, You're not going down without a fight are you?
Bulldozer, My heart feels for you BUT Ankeny, Ol Ankeny you need to have your memory erased and soon!

I just try to trade up to better or more potent guns whenever I get rid of one (SKS-->Mini14(POS)-->AR15). I only regret one...giving my mother an absolutely wonderful S&W17 which she has yet to get around shooting eight months later. What a waste of a great tool, it just sitting next to ear plugs, muffs, goggles and a few hundred rounds of good ammo. Someday she will find time...

Hello all. There are many recorded in my "book of tears." I reckon the worst of the lot, or at least the one that always comes to mind occurred about '75. I traded a like new
SIG P210-6 (adj sight version) for a new S&W M66, a buck knife, and thirty dollars. Gag!
Best to all.

Hey I didn't intend to make you feel any worse than I'm sure you already do. That rifle is a classic right down to the serial number. I'm sure you are aware of that, but the dollar value of the gun still pales to the sentimental value. It's the combination of both these factors that will no doubt propel you to winners circle of this ill-fated thread.
Okay I'll quit typing about it now. My condolences.......

Hello; Gee Whiz, this is a tough one! I have
made a lot of stupid decisions involving guns
over the years; but there is three that stand
out and far out class the other's. The first
was the trade of my old model Colt Agent,
unfired and in the original box with papers.
The second would have to be the trade of my
Smith & Wesson Model 57 .41 Magnum. First
gun I ever reloaded for; shot a lot, but not
abused. It was a 4" inch barrel model in the
wooden box and had the "S" prefix serial
number. The Model 57 was traded for a then
rare Model 29. The 29 was short lived; after
playing with it for awhile, I traded it off
for something else?

But the most interesting, and the one I could
kick my own ass over was a Smith & Wesson Model 39-2 nickel, NIB with all paperwork. It
to had never been fired. Oh! how I wish I had
this one back? I can even recall the serial
number without looking it up, A222567. It's
whereabout's are unknown; as I traded it to
a FFL dealer here in Birmingham, AL? :(

Best Wishes To All,

About 1988 I found a good deal on a Steyr GB with 2 18rd magazines. I paid about $300. It was a beautiful handgun and shot very well.
I had to sell it a couple of years later for bills or something. Saw one recently at the gun show for about $650. Damn!

Knee deep in brass, still shootin fast!

It was the Year 1991 when I bought a HK sp89 for $800 New and Benelli folder 14" New for $850 and a Franchi SPAS folder new for $750 and a HK MP5 SD full auto for $3000. I sold them all for $6000 a year later because I needed the money. Little did I know that they are going to be worth $18000.

Ruger Police Service Six with a 3" barrel. The first 357 mag I owned. I carried that piece for 3 years and just had to have a high capacity 9mm. Huge mistake. I've made up for it. I've started a collection of 3" revolvers. Ruger, Smith, Colt, Dan Wesson, and Taurus are present. In the future I'll acquire a Korth. I've been smart enough to keep the good ones now. Hopefully I'll stay smart.

Oh you poor souls!!!!

When my dad gave me my first gun, he related several of his "sob stories" to me, ending the lecture with: "Don't ever let go of a gun, Bob. You'll regret it for the rest of your life".

Guess what??? Yep, I LISTENED to my old man, I've still got EVERY SINGLE ONE!!! :p

fastforty,

You're not alone.
I've also managed to hang on to 'em all. (knock on wood!)
Hope I never have a sad story to tell...

Kept my SIG 239 9mm, sold my SIG 239 .357 SIG. Suffering from severe post partum depression, I bought a new SIG 239 .357 SIG. Regards, Dennis
