So Savage has picked up the baton from Ruger, it seems....

for making the ugliest guns known to mankind (at point X in time).

(Mostly rifle content, with a smattering of handgun stuff, so....)

Warning: I about to skewer some of y'alls favorite brands, so take it in fun as it's meant.

I mean, yeah, sure - you still have the butt-ugly Mark 3, P-Series pistols, LCP, LCR, and such, so Ruger is definitely still a contender.

But they did get rid of that "skeleton / boat-paddle" stock on 77s a few years back - the fugliest stock in the history of the known universe... uglier than day-old sin.

And of course Remington entered this arena with the 710 / 715 / 770 / Whitetail Hunter.

But then came the 2010s, when Savage really stepped up its game with the Axis and the B-Mag.. Really, I don't think you can hold a candle to that, can you? I mean, Savage 10s/11s/12s etc have always been kinda homely, what with the bulbous receiver rear and barrel nut - but this takes the cake, no?

Your move, Ruger!

:D

True Beauty

I find beauty in results downrange.

I dont adore black stocks no matter their shape or cost, I like camo and intuitive designs of camo patterns( real cammo to me has no discernable pattern).
I have shot rifles that couldnt hit the ground if I were to aim towards it, that had beautiful walnut stocks and were fitted well.
I'm interested in accuracy, and looks to a degree.

The Ruger American is already the most recent of the "disposable" rifles. And the best of the bunch. No one buys them because they are pretty, but because they work well enough for the money. Plenty of options for everybody.

FWIW, everyone said the same thing about the Remington 700, 870, and Glocks when they were first introduced too. Cheap stamped parts, plastic stocks, etc. will never work as we all know. ;)

Ugly rifles?

I own several Savage/Stevens rifles and all are sub-moa shooters. That is their "beauty" for me.
That being said, I agree; the Axis is the UGLY title holder.

I always thought the "Hump-Back" Browning shotgun was the ugliest long gun I've ever seen. But people love & treasure 'em!

...bug :)

well I know a lot of people that badmouth the ruger american as an ugly rifle.

then again the ugliest gun I've ever owned was an AK that was evilly blacked out.

remington's huge flop of a handgun the R51 is also quite unsightly.

and who could forget the marlin camp 9?

I hate black, polymer stocks on any gun and the B-Mag is absolute, unmitigated cow dung. Otherwise, I don't find Savage rifles to be ugly at all.

They are surprisingly accurate, home-gunsmith friendly and after-market accessories abound. They are currently my first choice.

Long guns, both rifles and shotguns, should have wood stocks in my opinion. Guess it's my advanced age showing....

Black stocks may not win any beauty contests, but they are hunter friendly, weather resistant, and ding resistant. Ugly no, just remember the saying, marry an ugly women and be happy the rest of your life. (LOL) They are not high maintenance (the woman) not just the rifle. (LOL)

i dont personally care about beauty or looks

Functionality for the job will win every time in my book

if it does its job you have it for , why gripe? get another rifle thats your "LOOKER"

also for some funny
-ruger: look ugliest gun ever, no one can top it
-Savage: CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

Nobody ever said.......

"Only pretty rifles are interesting"

Have to agree that savage sure got beat with an ugly stick, but. They shoot.

Unlicensed Dremel,

Where did you find one of those. Have been wanting one for quite some time!!

I remember them in the LGS quite some years ago. Don't even remember the model name, or number.

Std7mag

I pulled all three of my above pics off the internet (google images) - they are not mine. Had a 110 with iron sights & wood stock in .270 once - it shot well. My friend has it now.

Unlicensed Dremal, you’d probably become violently ill if you saw my NEF Handi Rifle in an ugly aftermarket skeletonized “Varmint” stock. But I sure do love the tiny little clover leafs it makes in targets. My NEF does look funny next to my $3500 Custom Remington 700. That I’ll admit.

Personally, I like the looks of the Savage Axis…..

As always, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I mean aren't there some of you who bought Pontiac Azteks?:D
