Im old enough (21) and can legally posses a firearm (read: clean record). I live in Florida and he also lives in Florida. Does anything need to be done?

Thanks Yall, Kyle

Say thank you and then take him to the range or go fishing or something nice that he would enjoy and do it more than once.

It only gets tricky if you live in different state.

What if my Dad (living, so not inherited) wants to give me a gun. No problem if I lived in his state too, but he lives in mi and I live in Il so that would be a Federal Law that I would have to transfer through a FFL even if we are family.

That is my understanding at least, so if I am wrong let me know. Doesn't matter which state cause this is federal law.

It does get tricky if the parties live in different States. Under federal law transfers across state lines generally require an FFL.

I'm not sure that's the only time it gets tricky. Some state laws may present issues; I don't know for sure. But at least in the OP's case, it doesn't seem that he'll have any problems under Florida law.

Thanks for the responses everyone! And don't worry I'm very grateful for such a gift. Hopefully we'll get to go shooting together. Its a WWII 1911A1 and colt 22lr conversion.

How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child

Shakespeare really had it knocked. (It's King Lear). :)

Give the gift of time to your Grandpa. You will not regret it.
