So I actually called KorthUSA today

Someday i'll get to shoot one,,,

Like I posted before,,,
I held one at a gun show,,,
I was not overly impressed with it.

I think I expected to hear a heavenly choir,,,
And maybe be bathed in a ray of soft illumination,,,
But nothing happened at all except that it felt like a S&W Model 28.

But hey, I understand bragging rights,,,
When I was a photographer and everyone else used Mamiya,,,
Imagine my pride when I finally swung the loan and bought Hasselblad.

My wedding pictures were no better,,,
My family portraits were not any more artistic,,,
But by gosh I was shooting with fine Swedish precision machinery.

.

Korth borrowed their styling ques from Llama

OK, a ballpark? Well, figure with the 3 cylinders you're looking at $18,000.

surely they can't be serious!

Don't none of y'all git to frettin' and a worryin'. Ol' Earl has been tinkerin' with them six-shooters since Bubba was President. I reckon he's done good on 'em. They are a little expensive but that's on account of that he gets 'em mailed to the house from Germany.

If you want a good deal, phone up the farm after supper and tell Rita that Jesse-Ray at tire-shop said you was a good 'un and that ya family. That $18,000 is for CSA money. You can use Lincoln dollars if ya'll rather. I think it's only around $8500 if you do BUT you'll be the one gettin' ripped-off. Once we get 'round to rise-in' again, the only thing that stuff will be good for is wipin' your backside.

The awesomeness of this post is impossible to describe.

The website should say something like... Don't worry Earl's got this **** handled...

PS if you click on Revolver models... the title of the page is 'Korth revlover'

It's very, very unlikely I would ever buy a Korth, but should I email Germany and give them the heads-up as to what's going on? Do you think he's got some sort of scam going where he's royally ripping people off? I mean talk about ROYALLY ripping people off, geeze man.

So what you are really asking if you should complain to the German company about a price quoted to you for a gun you have no likely intentions of ever buying anyway?

You don't have better things to worry about or fix around the house?

:In heavy Southern drawl:

Um, Ed? Earl appears to be in Massachusetts. It has been awhile since I was up there, but I didn't hear anyone who spoke like that. I'd be real surprised to find anything other than disdain for the Confederacy or its currency, too.

Regarding your prior post, I don't recall folks in Maryland speaking like that when I was up there, either. I expect Maryland is also short on "the South shall rise again!" crowd.

So we have a grumpy importer in Tewksbury, MA, with an Irish surname, and a fondness for German precision (he's also the Carl Walther importer). I think there are several directly linked ways we can go with that:
  • German accent: Rheingold, schmeingold! Blued and plasma coated steel are the real treasure!
  • Irish accent: I caught a leprechaun, and made him give me his pot of precision machined German steel! No one is getting THESE lucky charms!
  • Massachusetts accent: I threw mah lobstah pot in, and it came up with this! I think a U-boat must have sunk around heayah.
  • Realtor-speak: Of course you realize that with a location so close to Round Pond in Tewksbury, prices have to be high to cover the overhead!
Regards,
Tom

PS Then again, Clan Sheehan was first found in Limerick, so:
I called an importer named Sheehan.
On the phone, he sounded a bit me-an.
A Korth for eighteen K?
That a bit steep, I'd say!
You can't have that much of my gree-an!

KorthUSA: A division of Earl's Repair Service

If you are into Walthers you know Earl.
He's the "other" Walther importer.
Korth is just a distant sideline.
I'd bet he's not sold a Korth in decades!!

I suspect ol' Earl to be a "Sleeper" in the 'war against northern aggression.' He is clearly allying himself with the Germans for supplying small arms.:D

All jokes aside, play around on the website and look at the actual "factory" and staff photos. It looks like a highschool metal shop hosting a reunion for the class of 1930.

I have a feeling that, the person that bought one is not a regular shooter, and just wants bragging rights, just beause he can.

"Look at my $18,000 revolver! Want to hold it? What?....Shoot it!? Heck no, it cost $18,000!":D

At least they are getting free advertisement here thanks to the OP. Now if I win 20-30 million in a lottery, I'll have to get one, or two, of each.

I tell you what though, they wouldn't be safe queen's.

Today the Korth is worth zero to me. It was worth zero to me when it came out in the 80s. It is a totally useless revolver compared to a simple SW 19, 66, 28, 27, 686, Python, etc.

Over engineered to make the cost astronomical.

For a cartridge easily handled by SW or Colt or Ruger or Taurus or other.

They advertised the ability to replace the cylinder fully loaded. So what. A speed loader works faster.

Korth is an experiment in .357 that is over rated.

I fail to see the problem with fine craftsmanship and making a gun almost entirely by hand, other than the price but like everything else of such quality that is what it cost.

I have been drooling over a few hand crafted air guns for years.
They cost about $6500 and have to put your name on a list and be lucky to get one in 2 years.
over 150 years ago most everything was made this way.
But in todays age of full automation virtually nothing is made by hand anymore and the very few craftsmen that do change and arm and a leg for their work.

Exactly - considering what rifles from Hofer or Ollendorf cost and the wait time, or what a Fabbri, Purdey or Bertuzzi might cost and the time they take to make, the Korth sounds in the ball park. Same difference between cars like Ferrari or McClaren and your basic Chevy or Ford

Exactly......If you can afford to buy it you can afford to shoot it.

I dream of a Freedom Arms 45 LC someday. Is that too excessive? Since I could buy 3 Rugers? Guess it is just the obscene price of the Kroth.

This thread proves one thing...

If it cost more than you can comfortably spend then it's overpriced...

If it cost less than you usually spend then it's cheap junk...

And you don't need to be familiar with, shoot or own one to pass judgment...

Why on earth would you call a guy about a gun that you have no intention of ever buying? Is it just to brag that you can't afford the asking price?

There are several high dollar guns that are not in my budget. Some of them are worth every nickel. The Korth is just not one of them. ;) It comes down to what you get for the money. Also, in this day of CNC machining and CAD systems, handmade doesn't always equal more precise.
