So how does hunting work from a safety stand? and hunting with an SKS or AK47

An SKS or AK type rifle should do the job at most reasonable ranges. But I can tell you that if I took one on a hunt around here, I'd expect to get a lot of weird looks from other hunters. They might see it as someone who is just out to kill something with his assault rifle. Just imagine how someone might be viewed if they brought a mountain bike to the tour de France; sure you could do it, but it's not what most would consider appropriate equipment for the task. That said, I personally don't have a problem with it, I say use the tools you have. Just make sure you don't engage an animal farther than you KNOW you should be able to hit it.
 
I would seriously sit with someone in a hunt before you go yourself. It is important to see the stand placement, the kill, field dressing etc... - it is fricking hard work and not for everybody. Might save you a lot of time and money. :)
