Snubby-lovers: How do you carry your extra ammo??

About the same as everyone else ...

At least 2 Speed Strips. Local trips and about town activities. There was a time I simply stuck a single Speed Strip in my watch pocket ... If heavier clothing is worn I'll add a couple speed loaders, or at least extra loose rounds for use after the Speed Strips are exhausted. (Now, there's a scary thought, isn't it?)

For warm weather motorcycling, I've found the perfectly sized mini-camera case that not only holds my snubnose, but 5 speed loaders, and if I feel the need, some loose rounds ... and it doesn't appear as though it would even hold the snubnose, let alone the speed loaders. And it doesn't hang heavily on the belt. Go figure.

For longer trips, a small bag of loose rounds gets added. I counted them up the other day, and I generally have 57 rounds available in one way or another for day trips.

Paranoid? Not hardly ... ;)

i use to carry my speedloaders in my jacket pockets. little 5 shots don't hang much in a biker jacket. one had mag-safe,the other 158 grain hydroshoks.in the gun my first 2 were mag-safe and the last 3 were hydroshoks.

I carry two Bianchi Speed Strips in a little velcro fastend leather pouch that just slips into my pocket.

Another carry method that I have been using lately, especially for my J frame guns,is to carry two of the Safari Land CH7 speed loaders. I carry these straddling my belt, with a leather band that fits around them, and fastens at the top with a single snap. Getting to the speed loaders is instantanious, but they are very secure. Straddling the belt, the bulge is much less than if they were in a carrier on the outside of the belt.

A 120 round bandolier over my left shoulder!:D If I need more than that my wife and kids are packin more ammo in cans!:p

Just joking around...

Surprised at how popular the speed strips are. I like them because they lay flat in the pocket. Slower than a speed loader, but pretty good and very convenient.

Wish they were made in other calibers, like .44 Spl/Mag and .41 Mag. How about we all write Bianchi with this request?

I don't carry a revolver. If I did speed strips in a dump box on my belt. Better yet a split 6 made by Safariland or Bianchi. The split 6 carries 2 speed loaders on top of the belt with 3 rds in front/back of belt. The split 6 works with speed loaders that are for a K frame S&W or smaller. The split 6 wont work with L/N frame S&Ws. I wouldn't carry speed stips in my watch pocket. I would be afraid I would pull the tab on the speed stip & pull the speed strip away from the rds. I would have the speed strip in my hand & the rd still in the pocket. Same with speed loaders in tight pants pockets.

MTM 6 rd ammo case in left pocket. Slow, but very secure and protects ammo very well. Mine has to be well over 10 years old and just gets more worn like a rock in a river. Tried the speed strips long ago but 'speed' is an oxymoron with them. The MTM case is also slow but less chance of ctgs falling all over the place (Murphy).

My personal opinion is that after 5 shots I will either have lost big time or will still be standing there with an empty gun. In the latter case I will do a tactical load as soon as I find out I'm still alive.

As CR says, a second gun is really the way to go.

I carry two speed loaders and a MTM 12 round ammo wallet when my gun is in the fanny pack, but that's not usual. Usually I carry some combination of the three, like a single speed loader in the off pocket and/or the ammo wallet in a back one.

Wild Bill's Concealment Holsters makes a split 6 speed loader holder also. I've used mine to carry two speed loaders for my K-frame and it will also work for the J-frame speed loaders.

When I carry the J-frame I carry a speed loader in my pocket. It is a little bulky in the leather holder but hey I do it anyway. In the winter I carry two in jacket pockets.

I use ammo with brass cases so I can handle the rounds when I reload the gun with my fingers. I can not hang on to the slick nickel cases. I handle the brass to get it a little tarnished. Makes them even easier to handle. No ejection problems.

There must be a way to make nickel cases easier to handle with the fingers.

I have speed strips and speedloaders and don't like either. Has to be a better way - but it's a problem that's been around for a long time.

For my revolvers,

I carry a HKS Speedloader or a Desert Eagle .357Magnum, magazine in my back pocket next to my wallet. ;)
The Desert Eagle Magazines also work great for the .44Magnum.

I gotta ask coppinger and Ken Chavez:

How well does the magazine technique work?
I was looking at a Ruger Blackhawk in 45 ACP/LC and the dealer was describing how to take a standard $10 1911 mag, snip a loop from the spring, and feed 6 rounds into the chamber. But that was a single action.

Welcome to TFL Blikbok

I had a lot of problems with the bullets unattaching from the speedstrips while in my pocket. With the Desert Eagle magazine I know that the ammo is not going to unattach itself, and the steel magazine is also very durable.
When reloading I simply push each bullet out of the magazine one at a time staight into each bore of the cylinder. It seems to work great for me! ;)

Thanks for the welcome, Ken.

I fell in love with revolvers after participating in a revolver-only steel and pins match with a borrowed Model 64. I have learned to respect a guy packing two S&W's-- he knows what he's doing.

I'm on the hunt for "my" snubby, but I don't know what I'll do about the reload. I got much better with speedloaders, but I'm just not confident with them yet. Very interested in alternatives.
