snub nose revolvers

I know S&W is taboo but alot of the gun writers seem to carry a J frame at one time or another. Hell, I even think Cooper owns a model 60 but I think it is for his wife. Anyways, let us know if you carry a j frame( or other snub .38) and what your opinion is. Just a curiousity post and not intended to anger anyone over S&W's actions of late. Thanks in advance for all the replies.

Acually, my prefered snubbie is the Colt Detective Special (second version). A little bigger than the Smiths, but alot easier to shoot well. I carried it as my primary weapon for about two years without any problems. Now its the wife's house gun. But, just for old times sake I will carry it once in a while.
What a shame its discontinued. And used ones do command a premium price.

Yes. Model 36 (3 inch heavy barrel), Model 650, Model 37 and Model 38. None, as far as I know, carried in the current S&W catalog - but fine weapons. Work well and do what they're supposed to.

I carry my S&W Airweight Bodyguard in a pocket holster around the house. Excellent little carry gun.

Model 60 in a Milt Sparks Pocket Holster, always. Plus six extra rounds in Speed Strip. Have carried this for many, many years. J.B.

649 Bodyguard 357mag is my primary backup, excellent shooter, wouldn't trade for the world.

Model 60 is my second most carried gun. I downsize from the .45 during warmer months when a J frame is a little easier to conceal.

I've liked S&W snubbies for years and while they're most recent action is abominable it doesn't change how I feel about the two Smith's I have or how I'll continue to carry and enjoy them.

I don't think I'll buy another one unless something drastic changes, and that makes me sad.

I helped a buddy pick out a 640-1 .357 for his first CCW. It was used so Smith didn``t make anything off him. ;) He carries it everyday and has been very pleased with it. I was suprised how accurate it is and recoil isn`t as bad as I thought it would be with hot magnums(although it is "brisk" :) ). I`d feel well equipped with one. Marcus

I've owned a S&W model 36 Chief's Special since 1978. It's been on a lot of trips with me. Great pistol.
My wife has carried a new Taurus Total Titanium .38 snub since she got her CCW about two months ago. It's another great little snubby. It's the same size as the Chief's Special, but lighter and more durable. The Taurus also is ported and has better grips. We both use the non +P Federal Nyclad hollow point ammo.

When I carry a revolver, it is my Taurus M605 .357 mag. I also carry, though not quite as often, a Taurus M85. I have nothing against revolvers, I just prefer autos. I shoot my 605 enough to be proficient with it, and sometimes carry it during the summer when it gets to hot to lug around a larger gun

Carry a J-frame 442 5 shot .38 depending on clothing and weather. A great pocket pistol and balls of fun to shoot. 1 or 2 S.L. Variant speedloaders in the pocket and off you go. I was looking at the new titaniums but got a great deal on this gun. It's only 4 oz's heavier, but at 15 oz's it's a lot lighter than the SP101 (25 oz's) I was carrying as a second. The new Taurus line of Ti pistols seem very nice. If you don't mind throwing money at S&W the J-frames are awesome. Otherwise go w/the Taurus.

Carried a Bodyguard model 38 for years.
Liked it. Sold it. Missed it.

Replaced it with a Colt Cobra (2nd model)
Had a hammer shroud installed, Barami
Hip Grips. Love it. Wouldn't sell it.

I used to carry a TAURUS MODEL 85 as my car/summer clothes carry gun. Nice piece, & I was really accurate with it at combat distances. It is also the weapon my ex-wife used when she took the NRA basic pistol course. I sold it to a friend; I was looking for something a little smaller & easier to carry when I rode my bicycle & motorcyle. Didn't have the funds to keep it & buy the COLT MUSTANG POCKETLITE I had decided on. Still sometimes miss the Model 85 though (I'm kinda hoping my current lady will take to shooting & give me the excuse to go out & pick up another snub nose revolver - but nothing yet!!).

I carry a S&W model 36 as a backup to my duty weapon a Beretta 96D. Have tried others revolver and auto alike, but always end up back with the model 36.

I've carried Taurus 85 series revolvers for several years, mostly in pocket holsters.
Currently, the 85UL (aluminum frame, titanium cylinder and barrel shroud) is the one I own. They're only 13.5 oz. and "+P" rated. Great for pocket carry, but use a good pocket holster.
Previously, I had 85CH's (one was for my mom) in stainless. Sweet pistols, distintly different trigger pulls though. I sold them when I picked up the 85UL (strictly for weight reasons).

I've carried the S&W model 36 a fair ammount in a Michaels of Oregon strong side holster, along with a speedloader in my pocket. I tried the lighter non +P 110 grain Federal Hydra Shoks; but when I discovered I didn't mind the extra recoil of the +P 125 grain loads, I switched to them instead.
