Smith & Wesson Give em a Break

I agree Kernel, it is not up to S&W to defend or support our individual rights to own firearms. But when our rights are gone, who does S&W plan to sell to? The military? The police? HA!
It is my duty not to support S&W or any other company for that matter, who will sell out my rights just to prolong what they see as inevitable. They (corporations) need to stand and fight. They may lose but at least they make the effort and stand with the millions of gunowners who oppose further legislation.

My fellow Americans; I'm afraid this is going to be a new century of compromise. We can do nothing but keep fighting for our rights as law abiding gun owners. I pray we can overcome! Good shooting brothers and sisters. j.s.

My guess is "the fix is in". Smith & Wesson just got the short straw and had to announced first. IMO over the next few weeks and months every other company named in the big lawsuit (basically every major handgun seller in North America) will make a near verbatim announcement.

As I've posted elsewhere, Smith and Wesson is a lavish sponser of civilian gun owners and competition. Their intent is obviously to support the civilian gun owner and I will in turn support them.

From their past actions, I will have to believe that their approach to dealing issue of dealing with political bigots is taken in the best way they can to be able to continue supporting the civilian shooter.

If S&W creates a "smart gun", you can bet that afterwards, there will be people like Gore trying to outlaw all other kinds of "pre-smart guns" That will be what they will try to do and I think S&W rolled out the red carpet for this kind of future legislation. :(

"what gives a government that arms the whole world the right to disarm it's own citizens?"

Yes Philip...the could make a very lavish living selling to just the military and police. Especially since now all the cities that had lawsuits against them have passed an order down to give S&W preferential treatment. That an awful lot of guns if Boston, New orleans, Atlanta etc PD's decide to junk their Glocks or whatever for Smiths.

Let's hope thats not the case. EVERY maker will do whatever is necessary to insure that they stay in business and not give one rat's ass about what you or I think about it. If Glock, Sig, Colt(oops they already have) etc have a chance to settle the suits and save their skins but making concessions- bam- done deal.

Smith has been good to me over the years. I live in MA which probably is in the top 2 or 3 states with the most restrictive gun laws going. Trigger locks are required already.

Smith has saved their own hides....other makers will be stumbling over each other to be next I bet.

Why does LaPierre do all the talking for the NRA???? Everytime that guy opens his mouth something really bad comes out of it....and now he is going to do the talk show circuit..this could get really ugly.....why isnt Heston doing more of the talking???

I got a simple question for the SW apologists.
First, I have owned many SW guns.

Recently, I bought a SW317 LS for the recoil shy to use as an ultimate self defense gun
in my household.

There are several people who might need that gun in an emergency. So in 3 years, someone
else might want a gun like that.

Does everybody have to sleep with magnetic rings on both fingers? Do all of us have to
sleep with radio transmitters on our wrists?
Will the gun recognize - six sets of fingerprints?

SW is committed to guns that are useless for that the late night emergency. Thus, I do not
need their future products.

Question to all the S&W apologists. Why was Beretta able to laugh in the Feds faces, when asked to develop smart guns? Are you saying that Beretta has more resources than S&W? No, just more guts!

I was ready to trade my Cougar for a 686 revolver. Glad I didn't. I'm keeping the Cougar, and getting a GP-100 instead. The wife will no longer be getting her 3913 Lady Smith. Maybe a Steyr or Kahr. I'm just glad my P-99 is a true "made in Germany Carl Walther", not one of the Walther USA/Smith whores, or it would be on the trading block tomorrow.

This is no different than if a major swimming pool manufacturer made an agreement with the Feds to manufacturer "drowning proof" swimming pools in two years. Would that not provide a legal precedence that existing pools where defectively designed, and that all drowning was the fault of the manufacturer?

Smith has screwed us, the sport, and the entire industry.

Why did SW choose this time in the middle of the NRA debate to say this?

The President's lackeys are parading it to show the NRA is full of doodoo.

Thus, SW went beyond the call to kiss butt.

That is really unforgiveable.

Grapeshad,

Did you see Heston on ABC this morning? That is why he doesn't do more talking or should be kept from doing so. It was embarassing. He said that the NRA supports the Brady Bill as it is now, didn't mind the new 10rd limit Smith is going to do, and stumbled and stammered like a idiot. Everytime I see Heston in a Tv debate or discussion, he screws up big time. So far he has supported the Brady Bill, assault rifle ban and magazine ban. Schumer came on afterwards and tore his ass open, and he's a liar and opportunist but at least he's consistent in his posistion. Heston is the worst spokesman the NRA has. Maybe LaPierre is a lightning rod, but what he says is basically true and the truth hurts and that is why Clinton and the Media are crying foul.

Smith and Wesson sold us out big time. Anyone who defends them or says other is blind or has their head in the sand. Anytime a gun company dictates how a dealer operates, what he stocks and sells and makes the buyer prove his competence, they can go straight to hell as far as I'm concerned.

Well I thought I would never say it: S&W wimped out. The BIGGEST thing that the gov. does not see is that PEOPLE kill people. Guns don't do jack except lay there on the table. And the Smart Gun technology is as stupid as %#*&, there will ALWAYS be a black market for guns. The gov. will not quit until they have disarmed America. When that day comes, I will lose all my faith in the American gov.

i cant belive that there is any sympathy for s@w.after all they are following the footsteps of colt.sig arms has declared that there pistol division is for sale and H@K is trying to buy what is left of colt.people forgot how quick bill ruger sold us out when he vollentarilly withdrew his mini 14 from comercial production in 1989 after the responce to the stockton california masacre.(remember those muzzlebreaks and bayonett lugs)they arent there anymore and when bill released them in 1991 they went up $200 wholesale.
my freinds the gun industry takes care of itself and no one else.)why can i say this.?
because i have been in this businees for 10 years and have seen it all.i bet that smith guns will be flying off the shelves monday morning because everyone will want one before all the new gadgets are added.you can bet that they will also have a increased price because there is no doubt that the demand will be higher than the current supply. you can bet that glock will soon be joining them because since november of 1999 thier guns have just been trickling in and the price has gone up almost $60 wholesale.smaller companys like kimber and wilson seemed to be keeping a distance from these issues and are doing the opposite of the majors.THEY ARE EXPANDING!!!.i think that this will bring in more smaller gun companies to the ranks and eventually will destroy the big guys.

same
old story, same ole day .just another song.

Gusgus and Glenn,

Smart guns are a figment and will never happen in the form of fingerprinting, etc. Any "smart gun" mechanism can and will be disabled by most gun owners and all criminals. The only question is what it will add to the price of a legal purchase.
