No breaks here.

I have bought my last new Smith & Wesson product and have so informed Ed Schultz.

Read the whole agreement, as I have, and consider the implications for the future.

The first responsibility of any company is to please its customers.

As far as this former customer is concerned, Smith & Wesson is toast.

Oh, I'd like to give 'em a break alright.................wimps!!

They have just set a very scary set of standards that is going to effect the entire firearms industry and every legal firearms owner.

Mark my words, this is the beginning of the end.

Well, S&W was certainly between a rock and a hard place. They may have staved off any immediate lawsuits but what if they fail to comply with even one of the provisions in the contract? They'll be right back in hot water with HUD and the cities yet they will have also alienated a large number of customers. Unfortunately, it looks as though this agreement is the beginning of the end for S&W's civilian sales.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I hate what Smith and Wesson did, but let's face it, they weren't scheming to get rich or anything--they were forced to accede to blackmail by a corrupt system that held all the cards. They could either do this or face extinction as a company. I don't hate SW, I pity them and I hate the bastards who did this to them just to gain a few polling points.

OTOH, much as I hate to do it to SW, it's probably for the best that they suffer deeply after having caved, because otherwise others will surely follow. If word gets out that you can cave to Klinton's goons and gunowners will feel so sorry for you that you won't lose business, we're all in a world of hurt.

So yes, I'll avoid SW products (not that I was going to be buying a lot of guns anytime soon) but I'll do it with a heavy heart.

As I have posted elsewhere, I've been finding a lot of good used stuff, So I don't have to buy anything new from Smith. I was considering a new Schofield but now I probably won't. I don't have any use for Klinton and his goons or any of his horse****
laws, I also have no use for anyone who plays his games. Hopefully once he his gone and his 2nd in command stooge doesn't make it, maybe things will get better. :)
Just posted this to open a discussion :)

No Breaks here, and no more purchases either. They gave the Clinton administration the victory they needed. Yhey can co out of business for all I care. They will never get another penny out of me.
:mad

I'm going to give Smith & Wesson a break. Because they buddied up Pres. Clinton, and her husband, as well as the rest of the antigun nincompoops, I am not going to burden them with any of my money. I'm going to give them all the time they need to realize that they just gave up an order for one of their 945 pistols because of their new deal. This will give them plenty of time to make this gun with an internal lock so that it can sit on a shelf indefinitely while I support another manufacturers livelihood. Signing this deal may have given them a stay from those lawsuits, but it may also have been their business death certificate. I know I won't buy a new Smith & Wesson again.

As posted under another thread on this same subject, .... It is just a matter of time until all the gun companies follow Smith & Wesson in this matter. Really, the only question was which company would go first. This is strictly a business decision that is driven by business motives.

The big question is: When ALL the other companies follow Smith & Wesson by cutting similar deals with the government, WILL YOU THEN BOYCOTT ALL GUN COMPANIES?????

Why don't you show your contempt for Smith & Wesson by selling your S&Ws cheap? I'll be waiting for them.

We are sadly witnessing the end of an era in the gun business. If there was ever a time to buy quality guns, including certain S&W models, the time is NOW!

From the Smith web site I understand they
felt it was agree or go out of business.
My feeling is then fine,I wont buy your
product,(at least I still have that right)
Do anyone wonder why our goverment seems so
concerned about gun's but not drugs, which is
killing a whole generation of people, when
it is made illegal to own a gun in this
country(and I believe it will happen)can
you see the blackmarket, it will be much
more then the current drug problems. Anyway
thats my 2 cents.

No Breaks here. This is like coca cola taking the caffiene out of coke. Sure there is pressure. But how much caffiene free coke do you think can you sell before your best customers switch to tea or coffee. The quality of S&W isn't as stand out as it used to be anyways(i hate stainless steel in handguns).

As for all the other companies going under. Well, they will be helped out by us that will still be buying guns. Its just means that there will be more of our money to go around to non S&W type companies. ddt

The answer to your question is: Yes.

If you reread my prior post you will see that I said
quote:
I know I won't buy a new Smith & Wesson again.[/quote] I guess I should have also put emphasis on new. If all the other firearms manufacturers commit to this same deal, then I will only buy used firearms as the manufacturers will not profit from these purchases.

The thing that pisses me off about all of this is the way Smith acts towards the dealers. They are telling them that if you want to sell Smith guns, that the dealers cannot sell high cap mags or assault weapons. They tell them that the buyer has to take a test or prove he's been trained.

A local gunshop had a Smith days promo this weekend and had the area state Smith rep there and he was defending this bullcrap left and right. When I asked him about the sales they would lose from angry gunowners, he said "For every sale we lose from those type of gunowners, we'll make it up with a sale to a new shooter or those who don't care." The arrogance of this company and it's employees is astonishing.

Guys this is hard to take, I understood the bottom line, then I went and read the agreement----im surprised they didnt offer to establish a data base of gun owners for clinton. I most likely wont be buying new anymore, Ive decided put that money into other things---Im just fed up all the way around. Ive been noticing at several of the gun shops i go to they have a lot of older firearms for sale...people are selling there collections, why do ya think that is? The question for me is , Why should I settle for something less than what I already have?....I have enuf of em that I guess I dont have to.....remember to vote this year.....fubsy.

No Breaks Here, bought my last Smith & Wesson, thank goodness Ruger makes a good revolver. Smiths semiautos are certainly no great loss, they are a POS anyway...7th

Smith & Wesson acknowledges this decision will not be popular with everyone. The company noted that there will always be those with no knowledge of the circumstances and no stake in the future of the company. These individuals are not spending millions on lawsuits or seeing their ability to stay in business seriously threatened. Others are willing to sacrifice our company, our employees and our customers for their principles. We will not allow this to happen when we can make choices to prevent it. Smith & Wesson has provided security and safety to the world for a century and a half and we are not abandoning our goals or our obligations. - Smith & Wesson News

Since when has is been the obligation of Corporate America to defend our 2nd Amendment rights? The Bill of Rights guarantees individual rights, it is our duty as individual to defend these rights, with the aid of the 1st Amendment, the ballot box, and membership in the NRA. S&W is just a company (with shaky financial standings) making a product and trying to turn a profit, why expect them to fight our battles? This is a situation not of their making, the options they had before them were even worse. -- Kernel

I just don't get it. Half of us are saying no big deal, the company did what it had to. This sellout is as bad as all of the proposed legislation being passed at once. Just watch - 5 years from now everyone will realize that this was the turning point for the gun industry. All other gun manufacturers will now have no choice but to fall in line. All of the government agencies have already started lining up that they will only buy from S&W. You won't be able to buy handguns as you know them in the future. You won't be able to buy pre-ban rifles. You won't be able to buy guns which will take pre-ban mags. All of your purchases will be highly regulated, with even your sales receipts going to BATF. You might as well buy your lifetime supply of guns now; cause you sure won't want to own what they will be offering in the future.
