Smith and Wesson serial number search

Odd S&W ser. #

Hi,
I have recently come upon a mod 36 Chief's special with a ser. # AWCXXXX.
I have the Supica and Jinks books and don't find that prefix anywhere. The gun is marked Mod 36, no dash number following. Any help is appreciated.

I have been a follower of this forum and this thread in particular and decided to finally register and join in. Could I get a date of manufacture on a M19 ser #ANF2XXX? Thanks so much.

Since perusing this forum I thought I would buy the book. What is the last year of production? I have several guns and would like to look them up rather than bother anyone else and it would be a good reference guide.

I have a 32 Long CTG S&W serial number 271999
It is a 6 shot revolver in fine condition
I'm trying to find out what tyoe it is exactly, year of firearm, and and further information. Any help will be greatful my grandfather is not around to help me anymore.

It's a 32 Hand Ejector Third Model.
Serial numbers ran from 263001 in 1917 to 536684 in 1942.
Yours is likely first or second year production for that model (1917/18).
It's built on the "I" frame and was available with blue or nickel finish with barrel lengths of 3.25", 4.25" or 6" offered.

I'm new here, but may have a WWII 38 Special

My dad passed to me a S&W 38 with a ramp site marked "Parker Hale - England" and a potload of various stamps and numbers all over it.
- On the butt is "V 638015";
- On the left side just forward of the trigger guard is a tiny stamp of crossed swords with numbers too small for me to make out, maybe "0-2-6";
- On the left side of the barrel, under the "Smith & Wesson" is 'BNP' then "38 Special I-150"?
- Below that is "4 TONS"
- Inside the cylinder housing is "93446"
The (walnut?) grips are nicely cross-hatched, and shaped different from many S&W's -- the top edge being rounded and not extending near the hammer.

I've seen some that lookd a lot like it listed over $1,000; and I've seen a depressing number listed around $300. This one does load 38-Special ammo, by the way.

My dad acquired this, I believe, in the early 1950's when he worked with Scotland Yard in London as USAF liaison for counter-intelligence. Is this one of the lend-lease handguns?

Dates to right around 1944.
It certainly spent time in England although I believe the lend lease guns were chambered in 38 S&W vs. 38 S&W Special.
The original chambering should be on the right side of the barrel.
It was likely converted back to 38 special before being re-imported.
But, I could be wrong.

Old S&W

Hello Gents. I have a few old S&W revolvers and wondered if anyone might be able to give me some information on them. One is a .32 Smith and Wesson chambered for the Long Ctg, serial number 315XXX. The other is a very small 7 shot .22 short revolver (I was told it was the original Lady Smith) with serial number 564X. I also have a .22 Long Rifle Revolver Serial Number K210XXX, a new in box but old .38 Chief's Special and a model 66 Stainless .357. I have a few other arms as well; but, the first two S&W revolvers mentioned above may have a storied history, if the dates work out.

If it's an exposed hammer then it's a 32 Double Action 4th Model.
SN's ran from 43406 in 1883 to 282999 in 1909.

If it has a concealed hammer then it's a 32 Safety Hammerless 3rd Model.
SN's ran from 170000 in 1909 to 242981 in 1937.

315XXX = that discription/SN fits two models.
1) 32 Hand Ejector 3rd Model (round butt). SN's ran from 263001 in 1917 to 536684 in 1942.
2) 32 Regulation Police (square butt). SN's ran in the same range as above.

Either way, heat treating started at serial number 321000 in 1920 so that dates yours to 1919/20.


564X = Assuming it is a 22 Ladysmith it would be a 2nd Model with SN's running from 4576 in 1906 to 13950 in 1910.

K210XXX = the SN change over from 1953 to 1954 was at SN K210096.
