Smith and Wesson serial number search

Mod 57

Thank you,
Your response is very appreciated. This piece that I have is in extremely good condition. Kind of like finding a lost treasure! I have not owned it long. That's the challenge of this sour economy. Some people that have busted theiir tails most of their life are now out of work and have to part with many of their prized posessions. Such was the case ofthe fellow I purchased it from.
Thanks again!!!!:)

need help identifying

I have an S&W that I need help identifying..I'm pretty new to firearms in general, but fascinated by the collecting aspect... anyway.. I have a S&W .38 special, 4" barrel, under cylinder it's stamped "2 - 570", and on cylinder "arm" itself stamped "570", no model markings of any kind, original grips, round butt, serial number C 209258. On the barrel it says ".38 S&W special ctg". If anyone could help identify this and give me some idea of it's value I would appreciate it thanks!

I just picked up a S&W 5906, serial #VCH9xxx
The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson isn't very complete when it comes to later date semi autos. That said, the 5906 was made from 1989 to 1999. S&W started using the "V" prefix serial numbers on them starting 1994.

SN's ran from C1 in 1948 to C223998 in 1951 so yours is likely 1951.
It is a .38 Military and Police postwar (pre model 10).
S&W made a bazillion of them so prices range from a couple hundred (beat-up) to $500 or so like new.

Just looking at picking up a S&W 686-5 with serial numbers CEM41xx and am wanting to know the approximate manufacture date if possible. Many thanks!

38 Special 6 shot serial D82XXXX can anyone tell me the Model, Year of Manufacture, and Value of this revolver? it appears to have about a 3 inch barrel and a hammer mounted firing pin so i am reasonably sure that its pretty old.

TIA

Looking for DOM for Model 10

Looking for an estimated date manufacture for a Model 10 2 inch with serial number C536128. I am thinking sixties but any help would be appreciated to help with my decision to purchase. Also what do you think I should offer for it. It is in fair condition and they are asking 350

i have a model 59 seral#a604xxx what year is it and whats it worth? its like new

1979-80. If truly like new, I'd say about $450, but where you are in the country affects prices a good bit.

1975-76. Model 10 -the model number should be stamped in the frame cutout that's exposed when you swing the cylinder out. Are you sure on the 3" barrel? - measure from the back of the forcing cone. If so, the 3" barrel was not a catalog item at that time, so it would have been a special order. Value about $350, depending on condition.

1961-62. If truly in "fair" condition, which is defined as being in pretty rough shape cosmetically - extensive finish wear with some corrosion - but able to function normally, then I'd say that price is too high for such a common model. Try something more like $250.

Thanks you were right Mod. 10-6 with 4in Barrel i would say its near as i can tell to perfect condition i would say no less than 98% so how much would that change the value?

Perhaps add another $50 or so - S&W made tons of Model 10s and the 4" barrel is probably the most common. They're great shooters, and IMHO everyone should own at least one, but they're just not rare enough to really be valuable unless NIB.

In some cases, maker and serial number can pin down a particular gun, but not here. S&W made a variety of models of top-break revolvers years ago and most if not all of them were 5-shot. They used the same general range of serial numbers for different models, and the SN you list was common to several of them.

If you could find out the caliber, that would help a great deal. Also, barrel length and whether the gun has a safety device built onto the back of the grip area would help. Best of all would be a photo, ideally of both sides of the gun. Without at least some of that it's not possible to go any further.

Mother-In-Law just gave me her late father's S&W .357 Mag Mod. 27 (no dash, but the 27 is stamped over 29 -- actually just the '7' over the '9'). SN=1872xx. Is this enough info to determine date of manufacture?

Thanks for providing this service. :)
