Is the chambering .38 S&W Special (Spl) or just 38 S&W on the side of the barrel? Is it a 5 or 6 shot? Is there a letter prefix or suffix with that number?
Take the serial number from the underside of the frames grip butt.

5906's ran from 1989 to 1999. V prefixes started in 1994. Yours is likely near the end of the production run.
S&W's customer service can tell you the DOB over the phone for free.

Help dating a S&W 32

I have a five shot S&W revolver. On the side of the barrel it has 32 S.&W. CTG
Serial number on bottom of grip and chamber is 119175. Various patent dates appear on the top of the barrel the last being AUG.4.85. It also indicates SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A.
Can anyone help with any information on this revolver?
 
Model 60 info

Hi all new to the forum. Looking at a Model 60 .38 S&W SPL and wondering the age. Serial number is R261xxx. Any info would be appreciated.

Looking for a Mfg Date

Hey all - I inherited a .38 S&W Special CTG sn: C 241845. I'm looking for mfg date, model #, approx. value, etc. It has a 4" barrel and looks to be in great condition with original grips. Any info would be appreciated.

Serial numbers ran from 91418 in 1902 to 170000 in 1909.

Serial numbers ran from R220000 in 1979 to R280000 in 1980.
The model 60 is the stainless steel version of the model 36.
Production started in 1965 to present. In 1996 S&W redesigned the frame to chamber the 357 magnum cartridge.

It's a 38 Military & Police. The serial number dates it to 1953.
It became the model 10 when S&W began assigning model numbers ~1957.
Value depends on condition and can range from $250 well used to $500 in like new.

You also have a 38 Military & Police.
SN dates it to 1920's.

357 Mag Mod -66 no dash

Can anyony help me out on the date of my 357 /38 spec, i think early 70's but not sure Ser # AK670XX , or could be 4K670XX

Thanks Jim. Any idea on the value? Have a chance to make a trade for it but the guy says he knows nothing about guns. He originally said it was a .357 but in the pics you could clearly see the .38 SPL markings.
