Smith and Wesson serial number search

Thanks, what should I avoid? New to revolvers...all my other guns are modern semi's!

Sorry if I hijacked this thread for a second!

Howdy! I am having an issue trying to identify my fathers S&W Model 10?
Its a snub .38 with the butt of the gun showing the following: S 9306xx
Its a Square butt frame and it appears to have the victory model front sights. Nowhere on the gun does it show any sign of model, nor does it have and V's for the victory model. The grip is not original to the gun.

Any help would be appreciated, my knowledge on S&W is very weak. Its a lovely gun!

With the exception of the grips it's an original (and very collectable) 2" post war .38 Military & Police. It has a half moon front sight which is correct for that barrel length and vintage.
Serial numbers ran from S811120 in 1945 to S999999 in 1948.
It went on to become the model 10 when S&W began assigning model numbers in 1957.

Howdy all, I've joined your forum specifically to ask about my father in law's "new" Smith model 37. Lots of pocket wear, but very little use. Serial number 1532xx. Any ideas as to birthyear?

Serial number 1532xx
1957.
SN's ran from 117770 to 125000 that year.

Curious, does it actually have model 37 stamped on the frame? 1957 was right about the time S&W began stamping model numbers on their guns.

Jim,
Thank you, but I'm a little confused. You said '57, and that the serial numbers ran from 117xxx to 125xxx, but my serial number is 153xxx. Wouldn't that make it a '58 or '59? Do I have my facts right? Oh, and yes, it does say mod - 37 in the usual spot.

And, if I'm not making too big of a.pain of myself, could someone tell me the vintage on my 686 ? It appears to be a plain 686, no dash, 6" barrel, serial number AJU 3889. Thanks in advance.

Approximate age of old Smith and Wesson .32 revolver

Looking for help in determining the approximate age (manufacture date) of an old Smith and Wesson .32 revolver I recently inherited. The number stamped into the metal on the bottom of the grip is 178773 (the last digit may be an 8, hard to tell.) Thanks in advance for your help!

Yeah, I need to cut back on sniffing glue...
Serial nunbers ran from 125000 in 1957 to 295000 in 1962, so yes, your's is around 58/59.

serial number AJU 3889
1986.

Ser# 18D8XXX
1983.
SN's ran from 17D8901 to 21D0883 that year.

When you say old, is it a break-top (barrel pivots down) or a modern swing out cylinder?

Need a date on my Model 686

hello folks,

I own a 686 S&W revolver and I would like to know how old is it.

It is MOD 686, no dash, SN AJZ 68xx.

Thanks a lot.:)

Thank you

Thanks for the info. 1986 is the year I graduated high school. I am a huge New York Jets fan, even though I am from Bama. I met a guy on a Jets forum that was a retired New York City Cop. He said he had this Model 10 and would sell it to me for $75 bucks as a fellow law enforcement officer. By the time I paid his transfer fee and mine and shipping it was about two hundred bucks but well worth it.

SW 22 year

Received a gun from my grandfather... it is a SW 22 long revolver. Serial number K80xx. Does anybody know the year it was made?

Thanks.

the gun is only marked as .38 spl not .38 spl +P.
I'm assuming it's a "K" frame (6 shot) so +P would be fine.

For a model 10, you bet it's worth it!

Serial number K80xx
K-22 Masterpiece. The SN dates it to 1947.
It is both a very desirable and outstanding 22 revolver.
Enjoy it!

19-5 DOB

I have a 19-5 which I figured out with the help of this forum, thanks!

Can someone tell me the DOB on this gun?

Also, any idea of value?

It's my father in laws and he want to sell it. I will either buy it or help him sell it. Before I can do so, I need to have an idea of value.

I like the gun so I will likely buy it but I want to give him a fair price.

Thanks!

Serial number is AUZ94xx

Serial number is AUZ94xx
1987.
Value depends on condition and barrel length with a 2.5" worth more and a 6" a little less. Having the original box and papers also adds value.
That said, a 4" with no wear would be about $450 to $500 retail.
