Jglsprings, like I had said previously I never knew the man and don't even know what he looked like, or read his book. One thing I'm very familiar with is the thinking of the NYPD and their policies that they made public, especially during that time period and I repeat the policies they made public. They are aware of lawsuits to this day.
All I can say is if that's what he did and got away with it, then that's fine, cause he obviously made somewhat a legend of himself. But from what you referenced from his book it appears that he modified his .38, with a .357 cylinder in order to fire .38's from it and not .357's. Now that's not like converting to .357 and firing .357's through it. What he apparently did was to work up his loads just below the pressures of the .357, which under those conditions was brilliant. I can see the city allowing him to do that! I think he was smart enough never to shoot .357's out of that gun. Your original post about Cirillo had me believing he was using .357's. Sorry for my mistake.
