Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 Compact 9mm - Finally. I'm home.

I just picked up one. I didn’t specify which one, so mine has a safety on it. I’m going to take it to the range tomorrow. I was pleasantly surprised that the mags from my gen1 full-size work with the included collars.

Congrats on your 2.0.

I've been a solid M&P fan for quite some time and much prefer them over my many Glocks. The M&P40 and M&P40C are easily my favorite defense pistols.

The hinged M&P trigger feels great to me, and I am not a fan of the dongle thingy on the Glock triggers.

Of my five M&Ps (45C, 40, two 40C's, and one 9C), only the 45 needed a trigger improvement. All that took was an Apex hard sear and Ultimate Striker block to bring the M&P45C trigger down to a very nice 4.5#. I'm very happy with these triggers and understand that the 2.0 models are even nicer.

If I wasn't so well set with M&Ps that I love already, I'd snag a .40S&W 2.0 Compact in a heartbeat. Perhaps, someday, I ultimately will.

The pistol I would most want to have in my hand, if I had to rely on a pistol for defense, would be the M&P40 with 16-rounds of 180 gr HST ready to roll.

It looks like S&W is discontinuing their earlier Compact models in favor of the slightly larger 2.0 Compact. I'm very happy to be well-set with first gen 40C and 9C models! They are 'keepers'. The 2.0 Compact is a 'keeper' as well.

I've been thinking about getting one of these. Do all three fingers fit on the grip (does pinky ride half on/half off the bottom)?

I actually bought the full size. Found my pinky was doing the half on/half off on the compact...
I've watched a few videos and it looked like that was happening in some of them. I'd prefer the full size if that's truly the case, but will definitely handle both before I make the call (obviously :-))

2-day Fighting Pistol course exposed to the elements. Rain, dirt, sweat, high round count, you name it. The pistol functioned flawlessly.
Constantine, what kind of round count did you run in that course?

Full size M&P is an awesome pistol. But the original Compact model does offer a full finger hold, as well, with the finger-shelf magazine base plate. I use this finger shelf magazine base plate with holster carry and the flat baseplate when I pocket carry with the Compacts.

I'm glad that I snagged a few v1 Compacts in .40S&W and 9mm, on sale recently, as they are not making this size any longer.

Pardon, I'm confused by the statement. Will no long be making what? V1 M&P, or M&P 2.0?

It seems odd that a 2.0 Compact would be discontinued. Maybe not too odd - the full size is not all that much bigger than the compact.

I think he means they won’t be making the 1.0 Compact.

Yes, I meant that the smaller “original” Compact models (like in my photo above) are not being made anymore (but some are still available from sellers) now that the larger (G19-sized) 2.0 Compact is being made. There have been some great sales recently on the original Compacts.

I think the new 2.0 Compacts are awesome, but they are not a suitable replacement (size-wise) for the original Compact models, in my view. I think S&W could still sell the smaller original Compact size right along with their new 2.0 Compact size. The original Compact models are awesome guns.

My issue with the pseudo compacts that are actually sub compact ::HK USP 9 C:: is that, sure. You can get all 4 fingers on the front of the grip, but drop that mag and you're down to 3 while the palm of your (my) hand is in between the grip / frame and a fresh new mag to nicely pinch the ever-living out of me. Which is bad not only because it hurts like a bitch, but because the mag won't go in as smoothly as intended. Which is a no-go.

I still have my USP 9 C, but that is a downfall of it. I see the same ringing true with the 1.0 9 compact.

I would expect a 2.0 version of the 9c, in the not too distant future. That would give S&W a Glock 17, 19, AND a 26 sized gun

I would honestly love that.

My old setup was a 34, 17, 19, and 26.

Now it's like I don't need the full-sized M&P since I'm perfectly fine in my adoration for the long slide 9L, I have the real compact in 2.0 (G19), and a back up of the 1.0 compact (G26) would be great.

I'm not so sure. The 12rd M&P9c "1.0" is close in size to the 15rd M&P9 M2.0 Compact, but if they shrank it down to 10rd G26 size, it would be really close to the 8rd M&P9 Shield M2.0.

Either way, S&W may become concerned with cannibalizing their own sales. I guess it's a question of how far they want to go in pursuing small niches in the CCW market.

I hope they do release a 2.0 version of the 40C/9C. It is enough smaller than the 2.0 Compact to make a difference to some folks. 10+1=11 rounds of .40S&W or 12+1=13 rounds of 9mm in a pistol that size is nice to have.
