Smith 686P vs Colt Python

Turns out that the older model 686s "2 years ago and prior" have the hammer/firing pin together so they didnt have this noise "so im told" I wonder why they came up with the new design of a flat hammer smacking the firing pin, I actually like the older design better

I have an older 686-4. It has "the noise" it is the ejector rod spring sliding back and forth. It's no biggie. Both my GP100 3" a& 6" does it also

The correct term for the part is a hammer block (see Kuhnhausen). This part rattles in all S&W revolvers, there is nothing wrong here.

If on the other hand your ejector rod is ratteling you probably do have a problem. The S&W ejector rod is an close fitted part that is always under spring tension and should not be ratteling.

There is something about the lockwork on a Python. Thumb the hammer back for SA mode and feel and hear the precision of the components (I am talking about an older model. I have no experience with the new Colt offerings), and the trigger break (like a glass rod  ) just oozes with precision. The balance of the gun is better in my hand as well.

The royal blue finish is also second to none. :)

You do pay for this precision though... :(

Find a nice S&W 19 and try that .deep rich blue ,slick action and great feel .
I have. My best friend is an S&W afictionado (he owns over 15 S&W revolvers... ) and NONE of his S&W revolvers, and he has some VERY NICE ones, compare to that Python, which is also his... :)

Because of that Python, I am looking for a Anaconda in .45 Colt... :p
