SmartCarry

Looking to get something for my Taurus pt-111, maybe a holster or SmartCarry. don't know any advice recomendation would help. I usually wear Jeans reg/tight and T-shirts.

If anyone has pics of what smart carry is looks like without a shirt on, I would apriciate. I have seen pics on the site, but not clear of how high it sticks out pants.

A lot will depend on how your built, how tight you wear your pants, and how big the gun is. I dont have a gut to deal with, so I cant say how that would affect things.

I wear one daily with a Seecamp in it, and even with fairly snug pants, its comfortable. I've also used one with my P230 or P239, and my pants need to be a good bit looser for it to work.

If worn properly, none of the gun is above the belt line, and actually rides lower than your probably thinking. Its still easy to get to though, even while seated. It a very comfortable holster, and you'll soon forget you've got it on.

My Seecamp is a backup, I normally carry a P229 in either a Blade Tech IWB or a Sparks VMII. I'd recommend either of them if the Smart Carry isnt what your looking for.

Whats a seecamp? So with SmartCarry none of the gun is above the belt?? yea, I was hoping that the grip would be above the belt.

Do you have pics of that seecamp? So do you have smart carry thing?

Smartcarry is a concealed carry 'holster'.

Think of it as another pair of underwear that holds a gun in front of your privates.

A Seecamp is one of the best mini backup guns you can buy.

I've used a SmartCarry for over four years but usually not for more than two days each week. I carry an S&W Model 640 J frame revolver in the holster.

As has been stated, your shape and what you wear will determine the degree of printing. The part of the gun that will print is the grip and especially the end of the grip. The reason is that your clothes and your body are rounded and the grip is straight. Generally when people look directly at you they will not see the grip printing. From an angle they will probably see the printing. Part of hiding the gun in the SmartCarry is that people are not likely to stare at the area around your zipper.

When I carry in my SmartCarry holster I absolutely don't want to print. I wear a golf shirt out of the pants and that covers the butt of the gun. I've used the holster enough that it is starting to wear out.

I experimented with some small autos but I felt that they didn't hide as well. I also found that it was easier to draw a revolver because of the shape of the grip.

I foud an old fanypack that I had, I placed it the same way they showed on SmartCarry site and it didn't feel too comfortable and I had a large boulge sticking in the groin area, but if I move the pack to the thigh side a bit to the right, it wasn't noticable at all and much comfartable.

Can smartCarry thing be moved from side to side???

George, I know this has little to do with your PT-111, but your "what is a Seecamp?" comment caused a raised eyebrow to occur on my face.
I suppose though, that if you don't travel in the somewhat inner circles where Seecamps made their mark, you might not be aware of them.

The handmade Seecamp .25 and .32 autos were at one time so revered, so limited in production and so hard to obtain that they sold on the used market for twice or more of their retail value.
I waited nearly a year for my first one in the early '90s, and turned down offers approaching $1000 for it after I did receive it.

The are a gun that when you absolutely need your "last option gun" to go bang... they do.

Assorted, less expensive knock-offs... and Seecamp themselves increasing production thru improved efficiencies, have made obtaining a Seecamp a little more reasonable, but they are still considered by most in the know to be the finest mini auto made.

My Seecamp is probably the last gun I own that I'd ever sell, as it has "saved my bacon" twice... and I like my bacon. :p

Apologies for deviating from the thread.

the worst part is to sit with smartcarry right? Cause that is what Iam doing now w/ my fannypack and it's not very comfortable to get up or sit down

I sometimes us a Smartcarry for my Polish P-64. It only works for pants that are somewhat baggy in the front. Walking around is quite comfortable and you are definately concealed. Sitting is a pain however. If I get into the car while wearing it, I pull my pistol out and put it in the console.

smart carry is NOTHING like a fanny pack stuffed down your front .

5 years for me. I carry XD 45 and Glock 27 and my .357 revolver (not all at once). Plenty of ways to wear it. I choose right up front. No problem doing anything in it. I 100% suggest trying it. Best deep concealment holster I've ever found and only draw back is longer draw time. (around 2.65 seconds). I can do much better with IWB, even better with OWB, but each offers much less concealment and compromises my ccw. I'm much more concerned about never being detected, though I'm legal 100% of time when I'm wearing it.
Good luck.

The Smart Carry is nothing like your fanny pack. The gun rides against your body between you and your pants. The gun itself is basically on your thigh, with the grip under the part of your body that bends (ie your waist), so its not binding on your body when you sit. To get to it while you are sitting, just raise your butt a little and slip your hand down you pants.

You can move the location of the holster to where ever you like. I keep mine low, just left of center. You can position it anywhere your comfortable with it, even above the belt if you want.

With the right size gun (read that "smaller") you can also acess the gun through your zipper".

I know they show a boy wearing his 1911 on their webpage, but I personally wouldnt use miine to carry one. I think they are better suited to compact, or sub compact guns. Not saying I wouldnt use one with a pair of sweat pants though, if the situation warranted it.

The real nice thing about them is, you can wear one under just about anything. No belt is required, and with a Seecamp, you might just make it with a Speedo. The girls might be disappointed when you took it off though. The Speedo that is. :)

A Smartcarry and a Keltec P3AT let me carry always-whether going to the store, sitting in a bible study or in a an active job that involves wearing a climbing harness at times. Speaking only for myself , the Smart Carry doesn't work with full size guns or even high capacity "compacts". It carries them but it prints in my normal clothing----but with a mini handgun it works perfectly.

Well, I understand that fannypack is not the same thing but I tried to dupliate the wearing part, just like on the video on the youtube. Anyway I am not planning on carrying full sized pistols, Taurus PT-111 is what I am planning on carrying.

I guess it's worth to try. Thanks

I read so many good things about this style of carry that I invested in a ThunderWear.

It's just not for me. Not comfortable at all and made me feel conspicuous carrying even as small a pistol as my XD .40 subcompact.

Some people swear by them, but they are not for everyone.

Like anything else, you've got to find what works best for you. Also, if your not willing to adapt somewhat to how your planning on carrying, its probably not going to work to well either.

If you "used to wear a 32 pant and wont admit to yourself your getting fat and really should be wearing a 36 now, trying to get that Smart Carry( or other types of holsters too, for that matter) to work under the 32's isnt going to work out to well. Different style pants or shorts can make a major difference in the way the holster works for you.

I normally wear "Carhartt" type work pants, which are basically full cut, but flat and fitted across the front. The Seecamp works fine with them, but my P230 wont. If I wear a pair of pleated dress pants, I can easily, and comfrtably get my P239 under them.

As with any holster, but especially with a new type, you have to experiment with how and what you wear. You may need to go up a size or two, or you may not. I normally wear my regular size pants, even with the Smart Carry and a P229 IWB. Its snug at first, but quickly feels right, and comfortable. Some cant or wont do that, but thats them, they have to do whats right for them, just like you do.

The problem with all this is, you have to buy the holsters and see how it goes. Thats why we all end up with a holster box. EBay is a big help in recovering some of that though. I made out great on the first box. :)

1. It really depends on your build.

2.
I usually wear Jeans reg/tight and T-shirts.
You will not be wearing tight jeans any more. Dockers, preferably with pleats or looser jeans are your new wardrobe.

No way will I ever endanger my equipment
If worn properly and you choose an appropriate gun, this is a non issue.

If the shoulder holster works for you, great. They are one of the hardest holsters to conceal and one of the easiest to spot. They also wear hard on you over the course of the day, and beat you up if you have to run.

The Smart Carry is one of the few, if not the only holster, that will allow you to have a reasonable sized gun along wearing nothing but a pair of shorts.
